Hey Everyone,
I keep seeming to find little feathers around Keets cage and am getting a little worried. I was wondering if he is just preening or if he is plucking them out. I am very worried and don't know what to do. I have not seen him plucking any feathers out. If you have any information that would be helpful, please post.

Thank You,
KeetsDaddY

Welcome Keetsdaddy, your keet is not plucking, unless you see him bald or have baldspots? or redness. Its a spring thing. He is in malt and getting his new feathers. A spritz of water onto him, will be good for him. If you do this each day,it will help with the ich. When they are getting new feathers they, also get very ichey. So a spray mist will help this. I also have a keet and she is in malt too.I use the spray bottle full of water to help her stop iching. So good luck with your keet. Gail

Exactly.

Also, as the weather gets warmer, they lose some down feathers to keep them cooler.

Don't worry, a healthy bird will naturally replace what they have lost.

It is all a normal process.

Imagine what I have to clean up every day...I have 6 birds all molting at the same time:eek:

Ps. I mean I don't use the whole spray Bottle all at once. I use it about once a day right now. Roseanne I can just imagine? wow 6 in all? I have the 3 and they are all molting to. But 6? You are a good mommy!

I have two and both moulted earlier but I will tell you the feathers are so fun!!(NOt!!!) Vacuuming, dusting. Some budgies prefer the bath house to the spray bottle so keep that in mind.

My parakeet hates to get sprayed. She is too independant for that. She prefers to get a bowl of water that she can fit her whole body into. She likes it warmer than room temp, but not hot. She is very happy bathing herself.
