Hello,

I just recently acquired an American Bullmastiff. She was found wandering the wooded areas and sideroads near a friends house. After multiple failed attempts at finding the dog's owner, I decided to reach the local Humane Society. I was then told by them that they are overflowing and would most-likely put the dog to sleep. Now, I cannot let that happen, so I brought the dog home with me. With a full family, I do not have the financial means to take this dog to the Vet, as she so sorely needs, any time real soon. After giving her a bath and getting her all cleaned up, fed, watered, snacks, toys, and some good bonding time; I began to notice what looked like small scabs around her body. Now I don't know if they were truly scabs, but, they looked quite similar. Upon a more thorough examination I found two main spots on either side of her belly. These other spots were much larger scabs, and no hair had grown through them. She didn't seem to mind and i removed some of the other smaller scabs, and she didnt seem to bleed from removing them. A closer examination of the smaller scabs didnt really show any abnormalities. Now I am by no means an expert at canine skin, but, it seems to me that thier might be some issue there. I have grown quite attached to her, and would like to find out what it is, and if it is serious enough to beg a vet to treat her on a financial arrangement.

Please help me and Xena

Thank You

Chris

The vet techs on here might be able to help you. Maybe if you could post pictures of the areas?

You're either looking at mange or some type of skin infection. I understand the hurt for money, but there's nothing at home that will help either of these situations.

Does the dog itch or are the spots warm? Have you noticed any sort of excessive licking?

I will try and take some pictures of the infected areas this weekend.

Thanks for your response. :D

The dog itches maybe once in a great while.. nothing significant. I have not noticed whether the spots are warm, I will have to check this when I get home. And, finally, no I have not noticed excessive licking. I will have to keep an eye out for these behaviors now that you have mentioned them.

Thank you so much for your reply.

If there's not itching or licking, it may be something like ringworm. But, certainly pictures will be more helpful.
