I took a picture of Gustav "stacking" today and he looked amazing in this picture......well I think so at least. And the second picture is just another random picture of him I took. And no he does not stay chained up, this is to take pictures. Enjoy.

He's pure-bred? ...I've never seen one like him, he's interesting, indeed.

Yes, he is a pure bred. His dad is a German import actually. There are a lot like that. I think most are use to the black and tans. He is a dark sable, and his father looks like him, but even darker.

I love that great bear of a head.

Have you taken him to out to work yet? How is his temperment, drives, nerves, etc..? I have all prey beasts, and would love to have a dog with more balanced drives. Mine don't have a civil bone in their bodies.

He's a handsome dude, I bet he'll be even more so once you've got some meat on those bones!

Glad to hear he's settling in well!

He is still getting use to being here and I'll work with him fairly soon from now. I know he has sired a nice litter before, and all of the puppies were very drivey. Very smart too, and are being trained for the police in Michigan. If you ever want a puppy from him, or the other male I'm going to be using I'll be having two litters, one in April and the other in May. The other male I'm using has his Schutzhund 1, BH, AD, and he is a German import. He looks so much like Gustav it's crazy. I'll be breeding him with the solid black female, Meike, whos sire is OFA excellent. Meikes grand sire, is Gustav's sire, Iltis von der Wildsau, who holds his SchH 3, IPO3, and KKL1. That's going to be a very nice litter. Igel, the SchH stud I'll breed her with has a very nice pedigree, and produces very nice drivey puppies. I'm very much considering keeping one of the puppies from that litter. The puppies from Ela that I had are finally old enough to go to their new homes. The sable female she had is being picked up today. She still has that fluffy fur lol. The pups look great though. The female is drivey and is definitely Ela's twin. I'll be studing Gustav out when he OFA's because I know what he can produce. He is prelim good hips, normal elbows.

Now, I just got him recently and he is skinny....but thats how I got him and I'm working on getting to his proper weight. Everyone on the pedigree database site that saw his picture about had a cow and made a ton of horrible comments towards me saying i'm very neglectful to my animals, because zoe and meike were skinny too.......but they all came here the same day from the same person......but one person said i should be shot, others said that someone should take my dogs away and i should be put in jail, ect ect......Even though, this is how I got them......I'm actually helping them. Does that make sense to you guys?

Dang, that is harsh! I am sorry that you had to deal with that. Some people like to jump to conclusions.

I bet a couple weeks of good food and they'll be in tip top shape with no more nasty comments. You'll have to keep us updated with new pics as they settle in.

Husky06, the Database is post at your own risk. I also go there, but mainly to read, I seldom post. The tolerance of that board is almost nonexistent, and the posters extremely critical. I must say though, you can find ethical breeders, and knowledgeable and experienced dog people there also.

If you gain their trust and respect, there is a fountain of info to be had. But if you breed before obtaining titles, if you don't have hip ratings, or breed indiscriminatingly and with underage dogs, they will come down on you quickly.

If you have the GSD breed's best interest at heart, don't give up. Explain your desires and goals, ask questions, and listen to the advice. Much of it will be good.

I think everyone here already knew your situation, and that you are essentially saving these doggies, although I doubt thier old owner actually meant them any harm, I think she just bit off more than she could chew. Thats a lot of harsh comments people gave you, I've never heard of that site before, what is it?

Katiem, the Pedigree Database is a well known international board devoted to the German Line GSD. It specializes in tracking pedigrees of this type of GSD. Most of the large breeders here in the US, and many from other countries have posted there at one time or another. Many of it's members make the breeding of these dogs their lifework. It is a great place to gain knowledge or find who's a reputable breeder. The members there though are highly critical, and not afraid to sensor someone they believe is a BYB, they often judge too quickly in my opinion.

Sounds like the same group that is on the Showdog.com forums. They, for the most part have this attitude that their opinion is the only one that matters.

Anyway, husky, he is a beautiful dog! Good luck with those pups!

As I said before, I'm very glad you got the dogs, their previous owner didn't seem able to keep up with their needs.
No matter what a person does there will always be someone around who wants to jump to conclusions and make accusations. It's sometimes easy for a young person to lose their self confidence in the face of that. Just remember that you know the whole story, and they apparantly didn't take the time to find out the facts, don't let them upset you.
IMO you're doing a great job and the dogs will show that soon.
