This morning our pom puked in his crate right before we were about to leave for work. I tried to reach in to get him out of it before he could eat his puke, and he snarled and attacked my hand. I didn't back off from him and just picked him up and moved him out onto the floor so we could scoop up his puke. If this type of situation happens again, would you handle it any differently? (Think calm assertive)

Thanks

You did fine . . . but how old is your pom? Dogs should not attack their owners for any reason (unless severely frightened or hurt). Many small-dog owners let this behavior go, because smaller breeds do little real damage with their tiny mouths. But this is not appropriate behavior for a dog.

I would suggest further obedience training. Your dog needs to learn that you are the alpha, it is your cage and he is your pet, and he is not allowed to snarl or attack for any reason.

Yeah, i think he was hurt. I mean, he just puked. I just grabbed him like he hadn't done anything to me. I don't let him snarl at me, he gets reprimanded.
