Today, when I came home from work, I went to check on all the caged critters. I saw this little pinkish thing running across the floor toward me. It was Rufus, my hairless rat. He came right up to me and raised up on my leg. It was so cute. He was greeting me just like my dogs do when I return home. Somehow, he managed to escape his cage, today, in spite of the lanyard hooks I have on all his doors. I put him back in his cage and he came right back out by maneuvering the hook around the bars of one of his doors, using his mouth and hands (er, feet). I've always known Rufus ( and my other rats) are very smart, but I didn't know he had the dexterity to open the tiny lanyard hooks.

.... that must have been a big surprise. It is amazing how other types of animals can relate to us just as dogs do.
