I had Keegan (11yrs) at the vet yesterday. Possible start of a UTI. Not full-blown horrible, but they did find a few white cells in the urine. He is on an antibiotic.
He has and continues to pee on the carpeting. **Update...he peed on my bed too!
He is not spraying. Rather I find big puddles.
Is this consistent with UTI behavior?
How long until I see this behavior stop? Until the antibiotics start to work?
Do you think I should have blood work done as well or just ride this out for awhile?
He still poops in the litter box.
Boxes are always clean.

I also bought cat attract. Will he associate the cat attract w/ painful urination if I use it now?

And will this peeing outside the box be turned into habit?

We've yet to catch him in the act either.

The behavior is consistent with UTI's. Make sure he's drinking lots and lots of water, and don't ever skip a dose of the antibiotic. I'm going to assume you were given antibiotics for 2 weeks, at the end of the first week...you'll notice a change. Or you should. I think at the moment, you don't need bloodwork. However, because of his age...if the problem persists past the end of the antibiotics, do some bloodwork and check those kidneys. Also, make sure he's still peeing. If for any moment he's straining with all his might and not going...GET TO A VET FAST.

As far as the Cat Attract question, I'm not sure if I'd use it just yet. I think you have a valid point of him associating it with pain. I'd wait a few days. But, someone may have a different opinion or something else for you to try. I'd never thought about that before.

And, it probably won't become a habit if you correct the problem. Using the cat attract will stimulate him to go back to the litter box once 'it doesn't hurt him' anymore.

If your vet recommends it, I would definitely get him some bloodwork done. Even a simple profile will show his kidney function, as kidney problems also have urination side effects and are a concern for older cats.

Did your vet do a urinalysis? You could see if he has crystals, and if so, talk to him about changing his diet. UTI's in male cats is a scary thing. Like Tiffers said, keep an eye out for straining.. It's very serious!

Once you get his UTI under control, the peeing on the bed and anywhere else should get better. Especially if he's never done that before now.

Skeeter had a UTI about 8 months ago. He was on med's for 7 days and now he's on special food. I never had a problem with him pssing around, I guess I was lucky. He's fine now and he has no problems since.
