Unfortunately last week we had to put our 12 1/2 yo Samoyed down. Thanks to those of you who gave words of encouragement, it was by far the toughest thing I have had to do in my life.

Our 12 1/2 yo Schipperke has now lost his best friend and is showing some signs of depression. Were trying to "spoil" him more than normal but I can tell he is not normal and misses his buddy.

Has anyone had any experience with introducing a puppy into this type of situation?

Pros/Cons?

I'm not sure if were better off waiting awhile or doing it sooner? Or not doing it at all?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and for yoiur other dog who is mourning this dog. You probably will gain comfort visiting many forums with Rainbow bridge sections, with insight and wisdom what to do for your mourning pet.
It's too late to worry about the what if's you have put the dog down I'm sure for serious reasons.

your other dog may be up to loving a puppy or just a new friend, if so, let him choose.

God bless.

We had to put down our 12 yrs old Rottie in Sept and is was heartbreaking. Our husky too was going through a depression since he grew up with her. He lived at my mom's until she had passed away and we took him in. We adopted a 4 yrs old female rottie 3 weeks after. Though we were still morning the loss of our Juno girl Beau was happy to have another friend and his depression was gone. He is now happy to have the company and he is old himself (10 yrs) so getting a puppy we felt would be too much for him. He doesn't play much but just enjoys having Mica around. My heart goes out to you.

that's very sad... My dog mikki was kinda depressed after sam died but after a week or so she's back to normal... without spoiling her.
