Well, today I figured out Loki has a middle ear infection. And now I'm thinking Sybil's acting up lately may be due to medical issues rather than beahvioral ones. How can you tell the difference with cats?

I mentioned before that she pees on the couch when she's in heat. Well, it's not just when she's in heat anymore. The past few days she's been peeing on the couch, on some towels we left on the floor, and just now...all over our bed. This puddle was huge. We had just cleaned the litterbox too, so it wasn't dirty. We haven't changed the brand of litter. And I don't think it's a urinary infection because there is no blood, she's not going excessively, and she's not straining. She's been doing it since we brought Dexter home. She also lost quite a bit of weight, but I discovered that's because the fatties don't let her eat. I've been feeding her alone the past few weeks and she's gaining weight back. Also, she was grooming herself so much that her fur started to thin out. But, she's stopped now and it's growing back.

So, do you guys think she's just really stressed out and taking it out on our furniture? Or should I be worried? I really hope it's not a medical problem because then I'd have to decide who's need is more urgent...her's or Loki's. I can't afford to take both of them to the vet right now. :( I feel like such a horrible pet parent right now.

sounds like stress to me- just like bringing a new baby home, she needs lots of extra cuddles :)

HOw do you know your dog has a middle ear infection?

UTIs in cats do not always have blood in the urine, straining etc. It MAY be behavioral but I don't think wait and see is the answer.

also getting her spayed would help a lot, in fact that she's not spayed may be her whole probelm.

If it were me, I would take her (cat) to the vet, and without delay, untreated UTIs can lead to other more serious problems and only a vet can diagnose her properly. (and please get her spayed, you will have a much nicer cat and probably won't even have to call her "evil" any more)

The best way I know is going to the vet and eliminating the medical reasons, if there are none them you know it's behavioral.

That sounds logical!

I plan to get her spayed just as soon as I can. I know it's probably contributing a lot to her stress. And I don't call Sybil evil because of the way she acts, she's just incredibly anti-social and it's become kind of a joke that maybe she's always off in the corner plotting our deaths or something. If she had a uti though wouldn't there be blood etc...or some other syptoms besides not using the litterbox religiously?

Also, I suspected Loki had a middle ear infection..and it was confirmed by a vet today.

There isn't always visible blood in the urine, and NO ONE hides their illness better than a cat. My daughters boyfriend had no idea that either cat was sick untill one suddenly died. He then took the other to the vet and she had a bad UTI. Glad you were right about Loki, hope she gets to feeling better soon.
