Hi there

Just wanted to ask some advice...

Our cat Willow is just over 2 years old (we brought her home as a stray on the 1st January 2006 thinking she was around 4 months old as she hadn't had a heat).

She was spayed in June of this year.

She lives on the boat with us- we have just had some rough weather and a storm with the boat rolling a lot. The weather calmed down this morning and I was woken up by her urinating on me (through the duvet).... her litterbox is upstairs in the wheelhouse and easily accessible by her and we keep it very clean (every time she goes we clean it as soon as we can). She last did this before she was spayed- and its always on my side of the bed or my clothes.

The amount she 'did' suggests to me her bladder is okay- it was a copious amount! She always has access to fresh water...

What could it be?

Maybe just stress form the storm. HOwever inappropriate urination is most often a sgn something is wrong, illness, so watch her closely. Stress (as from the storm) can also cause illness.

If it were me I'd bring her in to the vet and have her checked over, with a urinalysis to check for bacteria or crystals in the urine.

Whats the cost of a vet visit opposed to peace of mind, after all?

PS, another thought, perhaps she tried to access her box during the storm and was tossed around and now is afraid to go up to it?

Sometimes they don't want to urinate in their litterbox when they have a UTI, because they associate the litterbox with painful urination. The amount she peed won't really indicate if she has a UTI or even crystals. They will try to pee on soft surfaces, like your bed or in your laundry (lovely! LOL)

I would have a vet take a peek and get a urine sample just to be sure nothing is brewing.

My cat used to pee on the bed at times. It was because she had crystals in her urine. She would also go other odd places like the boot tray we kept by the door, on my shoes and also on the hardwood floors. Treatment was difficult with her as she is a finicky eater but somehow miraculously the crystals disappeared on their own. The only thing I did differently was change to distilled water but the vet doubts this is why they stopped forming.

Anyway, her inappropriate urination continued and I now have her on Elavil, an antidepressant and she hasn't had a problem since then. It may or may not be the Elavil. When she was urinating on the bed I put a plastic shower curtain over the bedspread and a sheet on top of that so that when she would do it it wouldn't go through the linens to the mattress. It was a great day when I was able to remove that plastic!
Good luck with your problem kitty, I really hope she's not got anything wrong with her other than stress which sounds to me like the likely cause. I agree with the others about getting her checked for crystals or UTI so you know what you're dealing with, behavior or medical.
