our cat consuela has had a URI for over 2.5 months now. our vet, i have decided, is horrible. every time we go we see a different one. the vet techs do most of the work and the vet is in there maybe 3 minutes to take a quick glance and guess at a disease. so now she is so far gone that when they finally gave her clavamox (after a week of me begging for it) it did nothing because they only gave me 10 days of it after she had been sick for a month. the lysine did nothing. so im taking her to a different vet on monday.

also, i dont know if anyone remembers my other poor baby, zeke, and his bout with ringworm. well they were growing a culture to test and make sure it was ringworm and never called me back. i have called them several times and every time they say theyll call me back and never do.

our old vet knew our pets by name and were so close with them. they honestly cared about their well being. it seems like these vets just dont give a crap about my pets. has anyone else had vets act like this? it just seems like theyre always in too much of a hurry to care about what theyre diagnosing my cat with. one said chlamydia, one said herpes. both wanted to treat a different way and neither way worked. im so angry that over 500 bucks was basically thrown down a well just to have my baby still get goop on her eyes and nose.

i have had to clean her eyes and nose so much from all the mucus that her nose was bleeding yesterday! i put pain relief neosporin on it because it was so raw from being sick. and now they have guessed without doing any kind of test or scraping to make sure, that shes going to have to be on anti-biotics for a month! i really want to call them up and tell them to get their heads out of you know where and start paying attention to their patients! i dont get why its that hard to call a client and say "yes its ringworm" or "no its not" or why its so hard to do a scraping. ugh.

I agree that it's time to try a different clinic. Sometimes just because it's prettier and has all the bells and whistles doesn't mean it's the best, just the most expensive. I hope another vet will be able to fix them up a little quicker.

Sorry to hear :(

Can you change vets? I think I've asked you this before... Not one close enough? I'm sorry, I've diagnosed myself with amnesia ;)

So i took my baby to a new vet today. they took me back to the room on time and the vet tech wasnt even in there at all. The vet came in, actually asked me questions about her and then sat there petting her and talking to her while in the pet taxi to try and get her out. She felt her entire body and listened to every crevice and said its not even a URI! Its sinusitis! so they guessed totally wrong. and gave me meds for something she didnt have.

anyways, she went and got some sterile water to put down her nose to try and get her to sneeze so that they could grow a culture to see if its bacteria or just allergies. She actually paid attention to her! I was so pleased. Were not going back to that other place.

When my new vet called this morning they refused to fax consuela's medical records. Im not sure if thats a state by state thing but they wouldnt even do it without my permission. I had to physically go down and pick them up. Then when I got there they just handed them to me, no ID no nothing. So if theyre afraid of random people having my cats records why wouldnt they make sure I am who I am first? The woman at the counter I had never seen before so she didnt know me either.

anyways, I got some chlor tabs for her which is an antihistamine to dry her up and I should know by next tuesday if its bacterial or something else. they said if its not bacterial and the antihistimine doesnt do anything we have to do x-rays :( and possibly exploratory surgery :( i dont want her to have to go through that so lets hope its just an infection.

The vet you took your cat to today sounds more like what I would expect. That is how my pets are treated when we go for a visit. This past weekend the vet tech drew blood from April to re-check her blood work - but for a diagnosis the vet sees the animal. I am glad you found a new vet and hope that it turns out to just be an allergy and your cat doesn't need surgery. Best of luck.

I am also happy you've left that other practice.

I'm sorry you've had so much trouble. When I moved to this rural area, I had to go through four vet practices before I found one I was happy with (over a period of about 7 years)

I hope you can now get to the bootm of Consuela and Zeke's probelms. Are you going to bring hm in to be seen too?

If I were you (and I have done this myself) I would write a letter to the owner of the other practice to let them know why you left. YOu don't really owe them any explanation, and maybe they won't care, but it may make a difference.

I'm having exactly this same problem right now. I'm so glad you found a good vet though. And that Consuela has now been diagnosed properly. :D I hope she gets better soon.

I went to a new vet today too. And while he was better than my last vet, he's not exactly what I'm looking for. You know it's funny...when I'm sick I go to whatever doctor's available (or usually not at all), but I am going to find the perfect vet for my babies.
