So the next time Jack goes for his shots we are going to a low cost place. I wanted to make my appt but they needed to know exactly what shots he had already.

My bill says this:

FELV and FIV combo test
RHINO/CALICI/DIST/CHLAM VAC

Can someone explain this please? Thank you

Leslie

felv is feline leukemia, fiv is feline immunodeficiency virus (like HIV in cats)

dist is distemper. chlam is chlamydia. rhino/calici is rhinotracheitis-calici vaccination.

chlamydia isnt like the illness in humans. its kinda like the herpes virus in cats but it is cureable (not easily though). it can cause the same symptoms as herpes in cats and cause upper respiratory infections and all kinds of stuff.

im pretty sure you probably know what distemper is.

the rhino-calici vaccine is to prevent certain kinds of respiratoy diseases cause by the herpes virus in cats. just like herpes in humans there is no cure and tons of cats have it. especially strays. so if he does have herpes, this would keep it from turning into something more serious like feline rhinotracheitis, feline respiratory disease or feline calici virus.

im guessing the felv/fiv test came back negative or else they would have told you otherwise and it only takes about 10 min. to come back with results when its done in-house. and having fiv or felv can make fighting off the other diseases much harder than it normally would be. but since he is so young you might have to do the test again in about 6 months or so to make sure its not dormant in his system. we tested when they were about 6 mo. old.
