I just got a book called "The Human Nature of Birds" and I cannot seem to put it down. I forgot who wrote it, so I will post that info later.

They are really good. The cat solves the crimes. Well they lead their journalist human to realize who the murderer is by doing weird cat things and Koko is just an amazing cat.

Is it a childrens book or something someone in their mid-twenties would enjoy.

Jason:
I heard of a book called "That Quail Robert" by Stanger. It got a great review on another bird board and is about a quail that loves humans so much it chose one family to live with, etc. It was written in 1962 and is still reprinted and considered a classic. It is an adult book I believe and very poignant.
I am going to order it from Amazon. Looks interesting.

The cat who series is a series I think a person in their mid-twenties would enjoy. My mom reads them. Her friends read them. If you read them be sure to start with The Cat Who Saw Red. It is the first in a series of 24 books.

I live in a little town with a teeny library and all the bird books seem to have been written in the '40s! I would really like to know what it is about before ordering it.

If you go to Amazon.com, you'll most likely find the book along with reviews from non-biased customers, and a feature which allows you to preview the book right on line.
I hope it helps you....I use this when I want to preview a book before buying.

Thanks for the reminder about amazon.com - i use it so infrequently i forget it is there! (i'm admittedly a few slices shy of a full loaf!). i will use it and see what they say. i did find her book ' the companion parrot handbook' helpful.
Does anyone read her magazine 'the companion parrot quarterly'? i beieve it was called ' the pet bird report' for a number of years prior to the name change.

I haven't subscribed to the C.P.Q. yet, but probably will soon since it seems so good. I love BirdTalk, but lately it seems that I already know most of the info and it isn't all that helpful anymore. Has anyone read "Mind of the Raven"? It's a great book that I've just started, and very interesting. Parrots aren't the only smart birds! :)

I just splurged and bought myself an incredible book yesterday- "Manual of Ornithology: Avian Structure and Function" by Noble Proctor & Patrick Lynch. If anyone is interested in how eggs are formed, how feathers grow, how a bird's respiratory system works, and basically anything else like that about birds, get this book! It has absolutely wonderful, detailed drawings and is used in many colleges as a textbook. It's not about parrots specifically, but almost all the info applies to them. So if anyone's interested in avian anatomy- or is curious about how their birds work- then check this out!

A few months ago I was at the local Border's book store and I was, of course, buried in the animal section! This lady started talking to me because she was suprised to see someone my age looking at bird books, and it turns out she works at our zoo. She recommended this book to me called "Modoc" which I bought, and it's fabulous!!! It's about elephants-not birds- but is a true and VERY amazing story. It gave me a whole new respect and understanding for pachyderms! Probably my favorite book. And if you read it, make sure you have a box of tissues with you! I cried like crazy.
