I had my cat spayed last wensday and she came home and everything was going fine but now its looking a little swollen and red/scaby where she was cut. I'm not real happy with the way the stitched her up they only used one long thick stich and just looped it around the cut all the way down and it doesnt seem to be very tight, but I guess there isnt much I can do about that, She also have a very large lump at the bottem but i was just wondering if it would be safe to put some neosoprin or bactine on it to help it heal better?? Has any one done this with no issues??
I have attached a pic

Take her right back to the vet, today. Do not delay. Neosporin is okay for a small break, but not that. That looks to me like a bad infection in the making, if not already. While spay is normally a trouble free operation sometimes things go wrong. Please get her in today.
PS (in edit) not not let the receptionist put you off. This should be treated as an emergency situation.[U]

I agree, the large lump underneath looks like a suture reaction. Before it gets worse, you'll want to take her in. The white string they've used is common, as with the technique. We don't generally do that sort of thing for cats, as most spays and neuters we do internal sutures.

that looks like our cat when we brought her home from the shelter. only it was a blue thread. at the end they made no attempt at making it a clean knot or cutting off the ends so there was a big ball of blue thread that started to get under her skin and go into the incision. we had to take tweezers and pry the ball out from under the wound and pull it out. the rest was already healed up so we basically just pulled this blue thread out of her belly. it was crusty and had yellow stuff on it. so we put neosporin on it and it healed up within a week. she also had the large lump youre describing. the vet should at least look at it. our baby healed up just fine but we still called the vet and asked what we should do so we didnt have to drive half an hour to take her to the vet just to have them say "put neosporin on it."

I will be taking her to the vet as soon as they get back from lunch, it kinda makes me mad that the whole office takes a two hour lunch. This is the first time I have had a cat spayed so I wasn't sure what to look for, thank you so much for the help everyone. like I said she was fine up until about two days ago and then the lump stared to appear. She doesn't act any different but I don't care if anything was to happen to this cat I really don't know what I would do. I will keep you guys posted on her.
Thanks SO much,
Amanda

awwww....she is so pretty! and so shiny. could she be making any cuter face than that? lol
did they say they would make you pay for fixing the situation? i wouldnt think you should but if they have to go in again i would be mad if they made me pay twice for something that was their oversight. i hope everything turns out ok.

Well I just called the vet, and they said to bring her in and they would take a look. They better not charge me because you know I didn't do anything, if this could be their fault if it turns out to be something really bad. I had her blood work done and that came back fine. Although they didn't say anything about having to pay so I guess I will just see when I get there. We are about to leave. I will keep you guys updated.
Thank you so much on the nice comments about Envy, shes the love of my life :)
Wish us luck!

I'll be watching for updates. I am so glad she is going to be seen. I'm not a vet but that looks infected to me.

Envy is a beautiful cat. And I'm sure I speak for all of us here when I say we know exactly how you feel about her. How old is she? Did she have a litter recently?

She is absolutely gorgeous! What do you feed her that makes her coat so shiney? That has to be one healthy cat to shine that way. I just had a cat spayed, and for all that she was up and running non stop the day I brought her home the incision didn't do that. I hope she doesn't go through too much discomfort when they repair it, poor baby. Even the discount vet here doesn't use those kind of sutures on a spay!

So we are back from the vet!
They said it just looked like some swelling from the inside and to try to keep her still and get her to rest. She goes back sat. to have them taken out.
As far as what we feed her.... its really nothing special its just "Purina complete formula" Its not really the best cause it has grains and stuff in it cats shouldn't eat any thing but straight meats or food made with nothing but meat although those kind of foods are going to run any where between
20-40$ for a large bag..... which is what we get.

Keep her still, huh? Easier said than done, usually! I'm glad to know it's nothing seriouse. I can't get over how sleek she is, but I guess our litle black shorthair glossy too. Somehow i wound up with a bunch of longhair cats, and they just look fuzzy!

Thanks for the update, I'm glad Envy is okay.
There is nothing wrong with feeding your cat a good quality commercial cat food, and Purina is one of the best.
Stick around and tell us more about that gorgeous kitty cat!

Oh yeah I mean if I thought it was bad for them I wouldn't feed it to them, That was just what the Merrick rep. told us when I worked for a new pet store chain. But anyways yeah I really wish they would have at least given her some meds to help the swelling go down, bless her heart she worked her self up so much on the way to the vet she pooped in her crate.... twice! and then after we got home she has slept..... of course not leaving my side, she is the biggest baby I have ever seen! She woke up at one point and both Dan and I where gone out og the room, and she had a fit! she just started crying. It was kinda funny, animals can be so silly.
I'm still very worried though.
