my cat is only 2-3 yrs old female, and has been fixed. the other night she was playing with a mouse and as far as i know never ate it, but beyond tht idk wht she did with it. today we took her to the vet bec last night she wasnt acting right, very tired and didnt want to move. this mourning she ws houling and acting weird. so she went to the vet and they said she was constipated and gave us some meds and we were off. about a hiur or so later she started doin it again and it scared my sister so we took her back. we decided to let the vet look over her for the night. about 4 hours later the vet called saying hey did further blood test that show liver damage from so sort of poison. he says its serious and he does not know how it will turn out. has anyone else experienced this and if so what did you do and how did thing turn out. what do u think her cchances are.? i need as much info as possible.

...any chance she got into Antifreeze? Or perhaps the mouse died of rat poison, and after eating/toying/chewing on the mouse she ingested the poison.

I'm sure the vet is treating with as much agression as he/she can, and the only thing you can do is wait it out. The poison will have to run it's course through her system. You can't really treat the poison itself, only the problems it's causing.

OH NO, I am so sorry.

What kind of residence do you live in? apartment, condo single family house? You need to go to all your neighbors and find out who's been putting down mouse and rat poison and what they used, so you can tell your vet exaclty what kind of poison she ingested.

I'm terribly sorry this has happened to your litte girl cat. Please come back and up date us. I'll pray for her.

i had that happen to my dog, sadie. she died from a degenerative liver disease and we told the vet that she would run into the field next door, not come back when we called her and then come back hours later with deer parts and blood running down her face. the vet said that the deer could have been diseased and also said something about swiffer floor cleaner having molecules in it that are very close to antifreeze and that could have done it. but by the time she showed any symptoms her liver was 80% gone. if you caught it early enough im sure there is something they can do. the vet also said it sometimes occurs randomly at birth and there really isnt a way to tell until the dog dies from it. im sure its different in cats but thats all i have to compare it to. good luck.

to OP......please give us an update on your little cat. We care.

I heard that the swiffer alarm thing was blown all out of proportion. If you go to their website you will probably find a link to this issue. I don't use swiffer msyelf as they drive me crazy the way they push the dirt around and leave little lines of dirt. I still get on my hands and knees and scrub the floors, it's the only way IMO!<ggg>

this was over 3 years ago that we put her down so it might have been before any of this came out. the vet said that usually its just a random mutation in animals that is congenital but doesnt show symptoms so who knows to check for it y'know? also, sadie was a killer. she killed deer, birds, squirrels, ground hogs. anything she could get her paws on. and the vet said that it could have been a diseased animal that did it. she would do the little "hey mommy i have a present for you!"

i generally dont trust stuff with .com at the end because anyone can buy that domain and put anything on it. and i dont trust wikipedia either because just about anyone can edit it.

needless to say, we dont use swiffer anymore whether it was a hoax or not. i dont even want to take the chance. plus, yeah it doesnt pick up dirt like special said.

Oh. I thought snopes was a reliable hoax and rumor buster, but what do I know?<g> Alot about cats and children with specal needs, but not much else, LOL. Well probably you can just go to the swiffer website to find hopefully reliable information.

So what IS the reliable hoax and rumor buster website? Is there a government run one (.org)?

i doubt that there is one. mythbusters lol

thats what ill do. im gonna send mythbusters a myth about swiffer being one molecule off from antifreeze. but wait, they probably couldnt even test that. cause i dount theyre going to take a perfectly healthy dog and poison it for the sake of television. (at least i hope not)

well now i have to come up with an animal safe way to test that theory.....any ideas?

Saluki, I think you're talking about Liver Shunts. There are two types, one where the blood completely misses the liver and the other where it shoots right through it without stopping for filtration. Cats rarely get liver shunts...and if an animal has it, it will generally be passed to the next generation if bred.

Also, I agree with Special. Snopes is very reliable and they always cite their proof and whatnot for falsifying or proving whether or not something is true or false.
