it's me again,

i have another question about my new kitty. i have had many cats in the past, but this new cat uses his litterbox more than anyone i've ever known. he eats constantly (purina dry indoor cat formula) and i have to scoop his litterbox at least twice a day. even if i scoop it before i go to bed, he has used it twice when i wake up. he also has bad gas. i adopted him from the humane society, and they give their cats check ups before they adopt them out. he supposedly has a clean bill of health and is not acting sick at all. is all of this bathroom usage normal? is there another kind of food that would help him?

thanks again!

LOL. my cat is a big pooper, at least twice a day. I think it depends on the cat and how much they are eating. I would say as long as it appears to be normal solid poops I wouldn't worry. If you are still concerned you could take a sample to your vet.

Do you know what food they were feeding him at the humane society? A sudden change in diet can cause diarrhea and/or bad gas in cats. Also, changing to a premium brand of cat food (such as Science Diet) allows them to better utilize the food within their systems, therefore there is less poop. It cost more, but they do poop less (trust me on that one).

Perhaps call the humane society and find out what they were feeding him, and either switch back to that one, or get him on a premium brand.

btw....if you do switch foods for a cat, it is suggested that you do it gradually over 30 days. Start the first week by mixing 25% of the new into the old, 2nd week 50%, third week 75%. It's less traumatic on their digestive systems.
