Hi! I have just discovered we have some rats or mice in our attic. Having lost cats in the past to poisons set out by other people, I'm not a fan of going that route. Our cat is a wonderful hunter, but I have concerns about letting her up there. We have loose-packed insulation (not asbestos, fortunately). I'm worried that she'll pick up some of that on her fur and when she licks it off it will hurt her. On the other hand, that doesn't seem to bother the rats, so maybe it wouldn't bother her?

Does anybody have any ideas about this. Thanks very much for any guidance you can provide.

Betty

Catillac plays in our insulation all the time. She's perfectly fine. However, I wouldn't leave your cat up there at all as there is no oxygen and it's sooo much hotter. And, if you're not the first owners...there are probably rat traps and poisons up there from a previous family.

Most (not all) insulation is made from fiberglass...not great for anyone to breathe...how about some traps? My brother traps rats in these rat-cage-trap things. I've never had rats, but I bought little mouse traps that contain the mouse and you can toss it...or if you are so inclined...release it somewhere else.
