Gizmeaux is on a heartworm prevention, he contracted the worms...and came in for his second set of treatment shots. He took a turn for the worst and needed to be put into an oxygen cage.

...well, once he finally settled down...he fell asleep...like this, and I found it quite funny.

Tiffers did the preventative fail or was the owner not consistent with administering it? Which preventative was he on?

The owner gave this preventive once every month. K9 Revolution is what he was on and I wouldn't say that the prevention failed. Pfizer is paying for his treatment.

Microfilaria take 6 months to develop into adult worms and those worms last 3-5 years untreated. Say, he got microfilaria before he was put on prevention or between a switch or whenever. The preventions kill off any microfilaria, so if these worms were already adults or almost mature...the prevention will do no good besides lower their immunities. He was tested like every other dog with an antigen test (that tests for adults only), and he was negative at the time of prescribing. I wouldn't say that Revolution failed, nor did the owner. But, unfortunately this can happen to anyone on any prevention. (Revolution is safe for heartworm positive dogs.)

With that said, nobody freak out and think your dog has heartworms. It's possible for dogs to get heartworms on any prevention! Heartgard, Sentinel, Interceptor, Revolution it happens.

nope Tiffers....the little one didn't even give me the chance to show her...she fell right back asleep and started to dream (i think at least...her paw would twitch every once in a while so i thought maybe she was boxing in her dream). :)
