I was just wondering if your birds know any tricks. I tought Hayley, my Timneh, how to shake her head, kiss, wave, and flap her wings on command. I taught her to put a ball in a cup.(I don't have any money, so she doesn't have a basketball hoop yet.) Right now she is learning to identify letters of the alphabet. She can't talk yet so she picks the letter I ask her to find.(Well sometimes.) There just those plastic magnet letters with the magnet removed. Next I'm going to get her a scooter.

One day I noticed, while I was having Hayley do her wave, that Spide, my cockatiel was in his cage waving at me. I guess he wanted a treat too.

After we got Hayley, I also noticed Spide starting to hold food with his foot. He never did this before Hayley, and I had several cockatiels in my life and none of them ever did it.

I knew Hayley was smart, but I definatly underestimated Spide. He's our little genius. I didn't even have to teach him. Hayley did it for me.

My "Keet" can say hi,bye,Pretty girl, thank you, blow kisses, sing a tune but I still yet to understand what tune it is LOL. Sunni my Parrot can shake hands with me, and she poops when I ask her to over the papers, she says hello, nite nite, she kisses when I ask for one,she is trying to say I love you,it comes out so funny. She laughs just like me. Its really cute. She is only 6 months old so it will be awhile before she really can talk. They donot have a voice box like other birds do. The have to twist it to speak. So it will be a while before she can get the hang of it. My tiel just chirps one loud chirp. No singing or talking or anything yet,she is also 6 months old. Thats it.

Ps. Sunni also lays on her back in her cage and kicks her bell and she does this on me lays on her back for a scratch. She will hand upside down and look at me for my expression. If I laugh she does the sillest things. Some of my family will see her do this and laugh and she will keep doing it for laughs.

Sophie will lay on her back in my hands. She also walks on the floor to any room I name. So if she wants to walk and I am going to my room I say Allison';s Room!!! She waddles down the hall into my room. If we are downstairs she will go up the stairs to go wherever we are going.

Pumpkin plays dead, shakes hands, and comes when I call her.

How cute about your timneh and tiel! My green-cheeked conure knows how to walk around in a circle when I say "turn", and knows how to do a somersault on either a perch or my finger when I say "twist". Both only took about 10 minutes to teach him, he's so smart! He also can pull up a small bucket hooked to a string hanging from a perch, to get a treat out of it. I know he could learn much more if I took the time to teach him, but three tricks is enough for now!

Well, this is not exactly a trick, but is probably a conditioned behavior:

When my husband comes home in the am, he brings us fresh bagels. He rustles the bag so Snickers can hear it. She dances back and forth and squeals loudly until he gives her a crispy piece of poppy seed bagel.

Also, each night at dinner, Marcel hears the family around the table, and he cries loudly to come into the kitchen beside our table on his "kitchen perch stand". He eats along with us sharing our meal every night.

The budgies are content with being together on their own and don't socialize as much as the other two birds.

Well, I guess you would have to see it to appreciate it, right!!

well, both jake and sam can talk....just yeasterday, sam said "come here jackie!" it was so amazing! although he might never stand on a perch again, he's still with us and learning. anyways.....sam used to be able to put different sized cups in eachother to make a stack of 8 (i'm not sure if he remembers how still, but i don't think he would be able to pick them up anymore or move with them). jake knows how to flap his wings when we say "fly jake fly". Rambo (a lorikeet i had a few years ago) played fetch with a peanutbutter lid. (he would bring it back to you too:)) he would also talk and sind along with jez (another lory).

As far as talking goes, Marcel says "nite nite" when he wants to sleep. "What you want" when he beckons me. "Hello" "How are you" when he wants attention. "I love you" when he wants a ride on my shoulder....and a few more sometimes hard to detect things.

He's so funny.

My tiel has different squeaks and whistles for different things...she doesn't utter a word though.

The budgies have a communication going between themselves and it's fun to watch.

My lovebird (Bijou) comes when called. Even if he's in another room and I call him, he will listen for my voice and find me. Rio is starting to "come" when I call her ... although, I do this when I am only about a foot away from her. She's starting to know what I mean when I say "Come here Rio". Rio has clipped wings so she can't fly too far. Rio also know "shake it" ... where she'll flap her wings and shake all her feathers. I've heard of others who have clicker-trained their Pionus to do all sorts of tricks. I'm hoping that I'll be able to teach Rio a few tricks as she gets older.

Rio now has 2 words she can say ... she says "What" whenever we go up to her cage and say "hello" to her. It's so funny because it seems like she's asking us "what do you want?" in response to our greeting. (Bird with an attitude???? ;) ). Also, whenever my husband has her and he wants to practice the "Up up" exercise, he doesn't verbally instruct her ... so now she says it herself. As she takes a step up, she says "Up" ... so cute!

Our Blue & Gold is able to say quite a few things. I love you; I love you to (response); Hello, Hey Bird, Taz loves Jason, NO, up-up; Give me a kiss, how bout a kiss, gotta get a kiss; Wow!, whatever.

The green cheek and parakeet will say "let me out!"

The goffin is not talkative - once or twice she has said a phrase or two - but hardly ever. Love all our birds no matter if they talk or not.

How cute! I wish that all people would love their birds no matter if they talked or not too. On an african grey site there was someone asking if he should try to get a refund for his african grey from the petshop since after about two weeks it still hadn't said anything, or if he should just sell it in the newspaper for really cheap, as if it were a broken toy. I felt so bad for the bird.

oh I think I posted about that post on that site that guy made me sooo mad I said I would take it because he didn't care for it and it must be really unhappy I didn't want to be mean but what could I say to something like that?

Jenny

Yeah, I replied to it too! I probably sounded ruder than I meant to, but he deserved it if you know what I mean! I don't think my reply had any effect though either- people like that are so hard to convince of anything else.
