Hi Katie and Charlie:
Nice to meet you both. So nice to hear from another pionus parrot.....is Charlie a Maxi? Marcel is very, very sweet and lovable. We adopted him from a foster home and he has adapted to us quite well (I've had him 10 days). I am trying to figure out how to post his photo along with Snicker's photo (my tiel). My budgies are "camera shy". Tell us some Charlie stories please.
Talk to you soon!!

Birdygirl: I love the white caps. I researched photos of them online. They are beautiful. Marcel, my maxi, is not as vivid as some other Pionus' but when he is in the light, his feathers are beautifully irridescent, and his big expressive eyes just "kill" me. Anyway, I think all the pionus' are gorgeous....but the white caps have such a cuter look to them....seems like their wearing a hat!!;)

I checked and they are just so cute. My husband wants to know if they are also called a pocket parrot? A little minature parrot? Let me know? Thanks Gail

Gail: Take a look at this site:http://www.ruffledfeathersaviary.com/pionus1.htm
Also go to Google and search Pionus Parrots. There is a lot of info on them. I haven't heard them called pocket parrot or little miniature parrot. I wonder if your hubby means "pacific parrotlets" which are very little parrots (about the size of budgies). Maxi's aren't small in that sense. The are just a little smaller than an Amazon. They are stocky, heavy birds.

Sophie the white cap is from the smallest species of pionus in the world. And she weighs 202 grams. Vet says it is a good weight for her. PArrotlets are known as pocket parrots.
