We adopted 2 kittens at different times. They are about the same age though. The one was fully vaccinated and fixed already, the other one not.We took the one to get his first shot,he had a bad reaction to it.WE were advised to not vaccinate him again. He quit eating,I couldn't even get him to eat canned cat food.So I got some of the next step kitten weaning formula. He will eat that. It's been about 2 weeks since he had the shot, and still will not eat anything but the kitten formula.
Any ideas?I can keep him on the weaning formula if I have to,but having him eat real kitten food would be easier.

how old are they? i have been told before that if a kitten has an allergic reaction to a vaccination all you have to do is give it some benadryl beforehand. or the vet can do it when you get there. did they check his temperature? maybe he is sick. if you adopted him there is a good chance he has some kind of illness. shelters are notorious for spreading disease and URI etc...our kitten wouldnt eat the first 2 days. then we took her to the vet and got some antibiotics and he gave her a better wormer than what they did (strongid) and she was eating that night. try a different vet cause none of that sounds right to me. plus a second opinion never hurts, you cant be giving him kitten formula forever.

How much time do you give him to eat the regular food before offering the weaning formula? What other foods have you offered him?

He is about 10 weeks old.He is now on antibiotics for an upper respitory infection.Still not too interested in eating yet.
I usually leave the food down for a couple of hours.Iusually leave dry food out for him too, although he won't even sniff it.

One of our puppies had an upper resp. inf. the vet had me give her some beef flavor electrolyte solution, and puppy milk. He also suggested cottage cheese for her milk protein. I sometimes also try junior meats baby foods. the chicken and turkey are very mild and creamy for sick tummies.

Thank you for the ideas.I had tried baby foods and he wouldn't touch them either, never thought about cottage cheese.Guess what?He is eating! He liked the cottage cheese idea.I will get some baby foods too today, and see how he does with that.Thank you so much.
