I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago about my sick puppy. He is 10/11 weeks old now and growing well but still very skinny. He is being wormed regualy and was given a course of antibiotics for his dioreeha and some liquid medication to firm his poo up. I have changed his food several times to try and find somthing that would suit his tummy. He is now on Pedigree puppy dry biscuits (chicken and rice) and seems to like these. Only problem is he has started to get the runs really bad again. I dont think its worms as he is wormed to date. Does anyone know of a dry food that is very mild and wont upset his tummy? Or any other reason for his dioreeha. He had his first set of jabs last week and was fine after, its only been 2 days sice he has had dioreeha again, its worse than before! Please help!

You're changing his food WAY too much. Get a diet and stick with it until his stools are better, then you can slowly convert him to a different diet.
Stick with what you have right now...then once he's better, you can switch.

But what if its the food he is on now that is making his tummy upset?
It is most likely the sudden change in diet that is upsetting his stomach. If loose stool is the only symptom you should stick with the food until it firms up. Then, if you must change again slowly add a little of the new food to the old food, increasing the amount of new food a little each day until you are only feeding the new food.

My suggestion would be to put him on a VERY bland diet (boiled chicken and rice or even some cottage cheese) for about 10 days and then introduce him to a high quality puppy food, slowly, and keep him on that same food! Check the label for food that has a meat product as its first ingredient. I could suggest some brands, but I am not sure if thats allowed here...
We just had some pups who suffered from parvo at the shelter and this helped their diarrhea quite a bit, but the other posters are right - you are changing his food too often and you may actually making the problem worse.

I agree with the others. I think of dogs, especially puppies & older dogs, the way I do human babies...any new foods must be introduced slowly & one at a time. ;)

I have only changed his food 3 times, the first time was only chicken and rice (suggested by vet) and then he had some other stuff which i SLOWLY put him on when he was off the chicken and rice but he refused to eat it, he didnt eat for 3 days so I put him on something else which is what he eats now! What he is eating now is a high quality brand and he seems to enjoy it but I dont know if its making his tummy upset

pedagree is a grocery store brand
by high quality we usually mean something like wellness, innova, merrick, lifes abundance, etc.
pedagree has alot of fillers so he's probably not able to digest it well.
I agree with the above posters. stick with it until the diareah stops and then get on a better food.

I also feel that the fast change is what is causing the problems.
I would also recommend a change to something really bland, like boiled chicken and rice,,,,BUT,,,,,because of his age I would be concerned about him not getting the proper balance of nutrients for a long period of time, as he is in a critical growing stage.
I would also suggest keeping him on the food he is currently on, possibly adding some rice/rice water to his food, and see if that helps firm things up. At this moment changing again would not be a good idea. Wait until things firm up. If they don't then make a change to a better quality asap.
When using rice/rice water use 1 cup of rice to 2 1/2 cups of rice water. This will hopefully help firm things up.
When things are firmed up I would suggest SLOWLY moving to a better quality food. Because you have had problems with switches I would add only a tiny bit of new food to the old food and up the new food only if the stool remains firm.
Good luck.

Agreed. There is NO MEAT in Pedigree Puppy, the closest they come is chicken by-products (things not fit for human consumption).

Our husky had the runs all the time and he didn't have worms either. Like you we tried slowly different kinds of foods (vet recommended) but nothing worked until lately we went to a holisitic food store and put him on Orijen and he is doing great on it. No more runs and his coat is great.
