...this guy comes in, apparently an LVN. He's got a Dalmation with a ear hematoma. Me and the doctor are standing there listening to this guy's story and blah, blah, blah. Well, the doctor says, "We're going to have to sew it up." And this man, I AM NOT KIDDING YOU...strips off his shirt, bends over his dog, and says "Okay, I'm ready, let's go."

I HAD to leave the room...my gawd, people AMAZE me. Are you stinkin' kidding me!? I'd pay money to know what in the world that guy thought he was doing...man, oh man...I love my job. :)

I can imagine.. It's not everyday that you get the privilege of seeing someone strip in your exam room. Hence, the jealousness I'm feeling right now. LOL :D

Lol. It's not the first time though! That's the best part! LOL I walked in on an old lady standing in her unders in the exam room, by the time I realized she was naked...I couldn't turn back without making a huge scene!

so what youre saying is that the mexicans are putting something in your food to make texans strip all the time?

there is a guy that walks around campus with his shirt off all the time. he actually is really hot but you can tell he thinks hes the .... y'know. so i make it a point not to look at him. its hard, but i dont want his ego any bigger than it already is. he looks at people weird if they dont stare at him.

never had anyone come to work and strip though.....hmmm.....

Maybe he just didn't want to get blood on his shirt from you sewing the dog's ear up?

As far as the old lady...is it possible that she could have a mental problem, or in early dementia?

Sometimes there is a reasonable explanation for people's actions if one would just look for them.

Of course there's always a REASON for things :).. It doesn't always make it less funny though :X

Mental illness and dementia are not funny. They destroy families and change lives forever. I have intimate knowledge of both. But I cherish humor. I believe that it is the ability to laugh and take joy in our daily lives that provides us all with hope and makes us more human (and humane). Humor is even more necessary in professions that put us in the face of heartbreak...vet techs included. Joking and laughing while someone needs help is not only not funny, it could be dangerous. But the ability to step back, and reflect with humor can be life-saving.

No, I think I can assure you that none of us find it funny. This thread was just another animal lover sharing a story about something encountered at her job caring for animals. I don't see any harm intended. If anything it was put in this forum to lighten things up a bit.

Yes, there were reasons...definitely. They guy didn't want to get blood on his shirt and the little old lady's dog crapped all over her. It is still STINKIN' HILARIOUS that I always get naked clients... :D

Oh, sorry dlaura! Nothing bad...just a funny experience! :)

that thread started out funny....then turned very not funny very quick. you have to laugh at stuff or else youll be so depressed. both my grandmothers and 2 of my aunts had breast cancer but if we cant make jokes about it it destroys you.

i have ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids which are extremely painful and cause me to bleed for anywhere from 1-10 days straight. but y'know what...if i couldnt laugh at it i would be sad all the time. you have to be able to laugh at illnesses or else you will be sad 24/7. i dont think tiffers was making fun of anyone she was just making a joke. dont be so hard on her.

Actually I also felt that Tiffers was just sharing a funnyside of her job and not intending to make fun of anyone. So I was just emphasizing that fact as I felt people were starting to take things the wrong way and wanted to nip that in the bud. My gosh if we couldn't laugh at things we would all go insane.

That was my purpose...and generally when I relay experiences at work...it's generally really stinkin' funny one's that I figure the forum would laugh at. I wasn't making fun of anyone at all, simply relaying the experience.

I wasn't saying this about Tiffers, or her anecdotes.
My response was to the person who said "there's always a reason. It doesn't make it less funny"
If the reason IS dementia or mental illness...then YES it IS less funny.

Oh OK. Thanks for clarifying that. Yes if that is the reason then it isn't funny at all.

My mom was never quite right, and in her 70's developed dementia. No, it isn't funny, but some of the better memories we have of her are the off the wall things she said and did that resulted in everyone laughing (her included usually). If there is something in a sad situation to make someone laugh and forget the sadness for a minute, that laugh may be the only good thing to come from the situation.
