This is just something I am curious about- do any of your birds yawn when you rub over their ears? One day I was massaging Mortie's head (he's in heaven every time he gets a head massage) and I started rubbing over his ears. As soon as I did that, he started yawning! Every single time I rub there, he always yawns. I don't know why that is, or if all birds do that or just him.

All the birds I've ever had seem to like having their ears rubbed. This is the first spot I usually "rub" when trying to get a new bird used to "head scratches". And it seems to work every single time...:)

I didn't think my lovebird was yawning while rubbing her head. It looks more like a silent squalk. :0
I wonder if you laugh as much as I do with all the beak contortions? Sometimes when I rub her head she looks like she's grinding her teeth she doesn't have.

Sophie yawns when she wants to go back to her cage. Or when she wants to be held.
My budgie grinds her beak to music.

Marcel yawns and grinds his beak when he wants to go to sleep for the night.
He also grinds his beak as a sign of contentment.
Snickers (Tiel) and my budgies yawn when close to nite nite time and grind their beaks when they are content.
When I scratch Marcel's head, he just stares into space motionless. I know he loves it.
Snickers lowers her head for me to give her a "neck rub" and won't lift it up even a few seconds after I stop.
They're so cute.

When my birds get tired, they yawn. They also grind after yawning and then within 5 minutes they are sleeping.
