what a good photo of your little dog! You live in a beautiful place. I was in Singapore in early 80s and loved it. Nice to meet you.

Hi Mandy!

BB is just a little doll!! Wish I could just reach through this screen and give her a friendly pat on the head! Since I can't, I am hoping that you will do this on my behalf! I'm new here, too, and I can tell you this: I have yet to find a nicer group of people than those that I meet here! I'm looking forward to more BB pics and posts from you! See the avatar below my name? That's my little cuddlebug, Bootsie! Squawks (who you met a few posts up) helped me out with this, as I'm not very advanced with all this techno stuff!
Take care, Mandy...Nice to make your acquaintance (and Bootsie sends BB a warm "hellooooooooo!")

Hi all,

So friendly and kind of you all to make such a beautiful comments on my pup... Well, i guessed almost all the people thought BB is a bichon.. Hehe, he's a pure maltese. I guessed is his furry hair that make him look so "doll-iest". See the doll he hugged, he loves it the most, he carried it almost everyday with him, even sleeping with him-strange?

Oh, Serendipitym Singapore is quite a peacefully country but I guessed it is too small to explore, too small compared to CA. You are lucky too to live in that country.

Hmm... Thanks MariaRosa for your lovely pat... BB would be more than happy to receive it. Cuddlebug is absolutely cute too. Me too, not very good in that..

Hi myrdllover,Squawksx3,Serendipity and MariaRosa, really gald to meet up with you all... My pleasure....

Oh ya, attached is BB when he is 3 months old, i guessed not as adorable as he is hugging the doll......

MandyHuang! I'm a singaporean too and I've been all around looking for other singaporeans like myself!

This is so cool! Your Bichon looks great; mine is a Sibe husky who is awesome!

you have to tell us some stories about your bichon. Welcome to the board!

Hi SHGrrl

BB is not a bichon.. Seems like many mistaken that he is a bichon.. He is a pure maltese... Well, I do like Sibe Husky, if I do live in a huge place, I would definitely get myself one.

Let me tell more about BB, he is 1 year 3 months this year and he's mischeivous, playful and sometimes, he would get so "mad" into jumping all over you without having much control over him.

He's size is like almost every common maltese, not really too tiny nor huge, he has got some eye problem like all other maltese do - eye's stain. That is more than irriating. He is very friendly too but the only problem with him is that he dislike dark skin people... - no offends but he's like that... But if you play with him, he would definitely be so much fun to play with.

When I think of more i can describe of BB, i will post reply... Thanks all again for your sweet comments on BB... :P

Hi Mandy,
Just wanted to welcome you and BB to the board. What a cute little guy. I bet he is quite a little love.

Hi MariaRosa,
I pretty sure I welcomed you before (if not - welcome) - but had to tell you what a cute dog you have for your avatar. Jan is great - she helped me also. Don't know what we'd do without her!

Hi Mandy! Your BB is soooooooooo cute! You gotta love a fluff-face like that! I know what you mean about those tea stains...what a pain they are. I can only imagine that u must have to clean little bb's eyes every day. Bootsie doesn't have as white of fur as baby bb does, but i still have to give her eyes some attention at least every other day. (We call it cleaning the "ookies" off!) (Oh, and when I go outside w/ the pooper-scooper to clean up Bootsies "business", we call that "sweeping for landmines"!)

Dlaura....thank you for seconding your welcome to me!! I do believe that you took care of that previously, but I appreciate you're wanting to make sure...thank you!!

OH, LOL, "Avatar Woman", ROTFLMAO, you kill me! That was too funny! You know how sometimes somebody will say something and you'll get this immediate visual in your mind???? Well, that was quite funny as my 1st thought was of you flying across the globe with a stack of avatars under one arm, the other arm outstretched against the wind, and a deep, booming voice in the background announcing: "Avatar Woman! Fighting the good fight on her Crusade of Avatars For All!" (TeeHeeHAhA,, sorry..Had to share!)

Hey everyone...I did get Bootsie pics into the pics section..please pop in and take a peek when you have a sec.

Hi dlaura,Squawksx3 and MariaRosa

Thanks for the humble comments again.. By the way, what do you mean by "Avatar"- sorry abit blur blur... Hehe.. Actually i am too busy to help BB to clease his eyes, i guessed his fluffy fur cover the stains, therefore you guys can't see his tear stain.. Hehe..

Two days ago, I went to a pet shop and saw the maltese, the eyes is like completely clean and I was wondering why and the owner told me that she never clease for him at all, her pup do it herself. She licked her paw and rub her tear stain away.. After doing that, she even went to the mirror and look at herself.. If our dogs were to be like her's, I guessed, there is no such need for grooming.. Hehe..

MariaRosa, bootsie is indeed so cute too....... Opps, MariaRosa, you do bring your bootsie out to the garden for walk? No offends, o you find ticks or fleas on bootsie? I have the experience to find fleas and ticks on BB when I bring him down. Even i apply fleas and ticks shampoo, medicine and even spray, the eggs will eventually hatch and there will be a few hundreds, to thousands, to millions, billions and so on. What i do that time is that i shave bold BB and find every little fleas and ticks and until he is fleas and ticks free, I make sure he will never get in contact with grasses. I understand dogs, they also want to go for a walk so the most is to walk him at my house huge carpark where no grass or places fleas would hide in. - well, mariarosa, it is just a my experience, if you have some better ways to get rid of fleas,do let me know. :P

Hi Mandy, Oh those pesky fleas...grrrrrrrrrrr! You know, I've been pretty lucky...Bootsie doesn't have any, and hasn't for years. I'm not sure how that's possible, but that is indeed the case with us. We're lucky, those of us w/ light furred dogs. We have a much easier time FINDing the fleas.
There was a time when Bootsie did have fleas, though. I wasn't very satisfied with flea collars, sprays, and powders. They don't work very well. Sooooooooooooo...here's what I recommend you try:

Advantage.
It's a topical flea treatment that you use just once a month. It used to be that you had to go to the vet to get this, but I think it's widely available in most pet stores now. All you do, is part the fur on the back of your dogs neck (where he can't get to it), and squirt the contents of the little tube right onto the dogs skin. That's all there is to it! It's supposed to kill 98 to 100% of the fleas the very first day that you use it. And it keeps killing any new fleas that jump on your dog for 4 weeks. You should ask your vet about it, to make sure it's right for your dog...but I bet it will be fine.

I used Advantage on Bootsie during the spring and summer months, then discontinued it in the winter.
I give Bootsie holistic supplements in her breakfast food, and that may have something to do w/ why she remains flea-free without the Advantage.
Jeeeez....I'm starting to feel itchy.......
lol, J/K! Hope this helps Mandy.
Ps. We don't have those nasty little ticks in Washington, so maybe some others have some words of wisdom to impart??

Hi MariaRosa

I do have use the advantage before. It is quite useful as it kills the fleas about 98%-99% but it is too strong on my BB.. Guess what, he vomited and i have to send him to the vet. It works but eventually, I found the ticks on his paw that perhaps have the least effect on..

Do you know that ticks and fleas have a very strong life-span? I once try to catch them, they bite on to the fur and skin so hard that after catching them, my pup's skin bleed a little. That is still ok, what most is that I am very paraniod over insects and somemore those fleas and ticks looks so gross. When i catch them, I put them in a plastic bag and to prevent them from climbing out, I knocked them with my hairdryer - was blowing BB dry after his bathe. They seems like they were dead and I hit hard...

Opps, when i turn, the fleas and ticks are trying to climb out of the plastic bag... That was really gross... Thereafter the incident, and BB is fleas free, I promise myself I will never bring him to the grass...

By the way, I stay in Singapore therefore ticks are more than fleas, seldom see fleas but i guess fleas are more deadly than ticks... Hehe.. Try to look ard bootsie paws... They love the spot...

Hope i didn't scare you off...

Hi Mandy!
We don't have ticks in the area of the country I live in, but I've seen them on tv. Do you get the Animal Planet tv channel in Singapore? They have a show that documents "Animal Cops", the people who go and rescue abused pets. Well, on one show, they rescued a German Shepherd that was just covered with ticks. It was so painful to see, the poor dog!
Oh, lol, I know what you mean about those little icky insects!! I can't stand them either!! Gives me the creeps!!
Maybe next time you are combing BB, you should try having a small bowl of soapy water nearby, and dip the comb into that so that the fleas can't escape! My skin crawls just thinking about those liitle bugs coming out of the bag!!!!! Yuk! If you try the water bowl method, let me know how it works, ok? I think I used to do it that way.
I hope BB is doing well! She sure is cute! I'd love to see more pics of her if you have them! Bootsie is doing good. :) Hope to hear from you soon! Take care,
Paula (aka MariaRosa)
