ok, i'm worried. My dog throws up every once in a while. It worried me to start with but she's been to the vet before and nothing was wrong so i figure it's a weak stomach or her being hungry. Yesterday she threw up yellow stuff (bile i guess) but i read where that can be because she's empty. Well she hasn't eaten this morning. I usually just leave her food out for her because she eats a little here and there usually. but my husband just brought her in and said there was blood in her stool and it was a little runny. I'm probably going to make an appointment with the vet tomorrow. She acts fine until she don't feel good (has to vomit or something. . . she'll tuck her tail and we know something is up, but then afterwards she's back to acting normally). What do you think it is?? I'm really worried now!

Hi, I certainly agree a trip to vet is in order. We will be thinking of you and please let us know when you find out what is wrong. You never know if this could happen to someone else and the information would be I am sure greatly appreciated. Do take care and good luck. ;) Peggy

Dog or puppy?

Either way, animals can get 'stomach bugs', too. She could be wormy, she could have Parvo...there's a gagillion things it could be. Anytime there's vomiting and blood in the stool over a period of time and doesn't seem to be fixing itself, I'll recommend the vet.

I agree with lovecoton's and Tiffers. I would get her in to the vet and have them check things out. Better safe than sorry.
Please let us know how things go.

Ok. The answer was basically that i'm paranoid. :) They took her temp and it was fine. Heart was fine. Weight went from 6.2 to 6.1 but probably because she'd been throwing up some. That's about all they did i guess. No fecal test either that i saw. I guess they mostly go on temperture? if so, i need to buy me a doggie thermometer because it would've saved me $54. LOL! She did start acting better yesterday. Her stool looked better. . .still not the norm but better. They told me she probably ate a bug or something. well, she first said a lizard or a frog but. . . the only time she goes out is to use the bathroom and she's on a leash the whole time so. . . i wouldn't allow her to eat any kind of bug or animal. Plus, she's a toy poodle so it would probably have to be something smaller than her. :) She tends to be a little on the scared side too so i highly doubt that was the problem. But bugs do get in our house sometimes when i have to take her outside at 4:30am and the bugs are flying around the lights so. . . maybe she ate a moth or something. Who knows. They gave her some oral meds for nausea and infection in case she did eat something that messed up her stomach and something that would help harden her stool. Anyway, i believe i'm going to buy a pet first aid kit. I've been wanting one anyway so. . . that might save me another trip to the vet. Any ideas on where to get one or what to buy to make my own? The vet told me i wasn't paranoid but it's better to be safe than sorry. I agree. They did scold me about her eyes though. She has bad tear stains but i've heard nothing works in getting rid of them so i haven't really tried anything. But apparently they are starting to stay infected. She told me to start putting an antibacterial soap on them and washing the eye area real good with it and dry her eyes at least 2 times a day. And i'll have to do it the rest of her life. And that the puppy cut is cute but she's over a year old and we might want to look into getting her a real poodle cut. :( I like her regular cut.

Not to say that your vet is bad...but we would generally do a fecal when there's a presence of blood. I'm surprised that they did not.

...I'm going to say that making your own is probably cheaper. But, really...I don't know, I have never even looked to see what's in those. I guess that's because I can just go up to work and get what I need...but, I do think they're a good idea.

They did scold me about her eyes though. She has bad tear stains but i've heard nothing works in getting rid of them so i haven't really tried anything.
We have many clients doing many things, and their dogs do not have tear stains. Some have their pet drink distilled water, ONLY. Their dogs do not have tear stains. And then, we have this oinment Oxydex Gel...I don't remember what it's for, but you'd rub it on the stains and within a few weeks, they're definitely dimmer...but a lot times people don't do it right and don't see a change.

But apparently they are starting to stay infected. She told me to start putting an antibacterial soap on them and washing the eye area real good with it and dry her eyes at least 2 times a day.

Once again, not to say your vet is bad...but, I don't think you should do this. If you get that stuff in her eyes, it could cause ulcers and burn like none other. Just use baby wipes or even just a wet paper towel, one that you know you have control over where the stuff goes and gently wipe. Eyes are very, very sensitive, and getting soapy water in and around them isn't something I'd like for myself or Chica to go through.

I'll keep all this in mind. I guess i need to try a few things. I've had a few suggestions so. . .maybe something will work. My question for this lady was if the antibacterial soap would dry her skin. . . i always here not to use human shampoo so would that also go for antibacterial soap? She didn't seem to think it would be a problem. I didn't even think about it burning her eyes or causing ulcers.

...well, yes. She has a point. Human shampoos are for human skin, and dog shampoos for dog skin as we're totally different there. If you can keep the area clean, there will be no need for an antibacterial soap. Perhaps she's just telling you to use it now to deplete what's already there?

I'm glad there wasn't anything major wrong. It's good that you went and had things checked.
I've also heard about people adding a little apple cider vinegar to the water to help with the tear stains. I've never done this myself so I can't personally comment on it.
With the people shampoo,,,,our PH is different than a dogs so I would switch to a dog shampoo.
Good luck.
