We got our new fur baby, Vick, three days ago from a rescue. Vick is a 6 to 8 wk old male American Bulldog Boxer mix (they think) and darling!!!

The rescue had him neutered (also three days ago) and she told me that they stitch the inside and then glue the skin on the ouside of the puppy where the incision is.

Yesterday I noticed that the incision appeared to be open about a quarter of an inch. It wasn't swolen or anything so I called our vet and she said to wipe it gently w/ a warm cloth and I could put peroxide on it if I wanted. She said as long as the discharge stays clear that were good. And, she recommended keeping him in his crate more b/c he's probably been too active.

Well, today I noticed that it is a tad bigger....still, no yucky stuff on it. I cleaned the area, used peroxide and put a tiny dab of neosporen on it and then crated him.

Does anyone have any advise or tips on what I should or shouldn't do to help this heal?

Thanks so much!!

...is Vick licking or chewing on the incision? He may need an E-Collar or a Bite-Not Collar. If he's licking and chewing, he's probably opening it up himself.

Hello,

Not really...I've only noticed him licking it...maybe two or three times in the past two days and even then he's not really going after it.

I've been trying to carry him up & down the steps when he goes out to potty & otherwise I've been crating him (except for feeding times and a couple play times a day)...

Thanks for the reply!

...are you watching him in his crate the whole time? He may be getting bored and chewing at the incision.
