I just got a puppy from the pound and I took it to the vet the next day and it turns out it had parvo. The vet thinks that he will make it through, but we just started treating him. Can anyone give any general ideas on how I can further assist my puppy? Though I have only had him three days, I am already really attatched to little Cosmo. Also, I am trying to train him to use puppy pads so that my carpet doesn't get too destroyed. Do you have any tips. I can't take him outside until he gets better so I have to figure out something. I am thankful though that he at least attempts to go to the bathroom on the tile whe he has to go number two. Thank you so much....
Actually, the vet just sent us home with some anti biotics and other medicine because it is still pretty early in his sickness. I called the pound and they acted all innocent. I understand that they don't want these things to happen, but I am sure that there would be vets willing to come take a look at the dogs at least once a week to ensure their basic health. From what I understand, they don't even check the animals. Now, because of their negligence, all the puppies that were in the kennel with him are going to be euthanised as well. I am not sure that animal control has a garuntee on pets. I wouldn't imagine that they do, because they obviously don't take good enough care of the pets they have. Also, is there ant way to disinfect carpet. I have been using bleach on the tile and linoleum, but I can't use it on the carpet.

I've never heard of Parvo. What is it?

Parvo is a disease that affects dogs, mostly puppies whose immune systems are still building. It attacks their intestinal tract and they have diarrhea that usuall contains blood clots. Besides that, they are lethargic and rarely move except to get water as they are very dehydrated which is why they die.
