Does my little puppy, Duckie have a vitamin deficiency? He keeps bringing in wood pieces and chewing on our back deck? Is it just a puppy thing or what? I am worried he will get splinters in his little mouth...

Also, he has a broken tooth..is that bad.. he's only 14wks.. I am pretty sure it's a baby tooth, but when will it fall out..I didn't see any exposed nerves and it's not effecting his eating, but I don't know if it's bad or not...

One more thing. We have down comforters and he shredded one of them..feathers were every where.. do dogs have like fetishes (only not a fetish, I don't know the word for it) for things, or could it be the scent of the comforter..or even could he have been angry that we left him alone..I know he hates to be left alone, he usually occupies himself after we leave, what's going on inside our little Duckies head?

Thank you all

No deficiency. Just a puppy thing. He may be chewing them because he doesn't have much else to chew on, for example, toys to play with.

If it is indeed a deciduous tooth, it should fall out. His permanent teeth should come in around 6 months, pushing that tooth out. If not, it will need to be pulled.

He sounds bored. How many toys does he have to play with? He may have shredded the comforter because he was bored...or because it looked fun.

One of my dogs would opt for a 2 x 4 over a toy any day. Made building our shop a job indeed! She has countless toys but prefers wood, the hose reel, pool floats, and the pool vacuum!

Sounds like my dog! Her highness is partial to asphalt, drywall, acorns, tree limbs, baling twine, etc.

Shadow was almost 3 years old before her destructive phase FINALLY ended.

My dogs have taken to chewing on door frames, window sills, coffee tables, all which seem made of wood... do you think getting them wooden 'toys' would detour them from chewing on such important wooden things... or would it only encourage them? I have posted my own thread about their chewing issues....

I honestly have no idea, but I did take the advice on the Bitter Apple Spray found at our local PetsMart..he hates it..they said to give him a good taste so that when he gets even the slightest hint of it he won't chew..it seems to work..for now.. I'll update in a week or so..

Good Luck with your little one..

Thank you all for your WONDERFUL advice
