Well last night i was able to get only a few pics to come in and now i cant get any to come in, but what i wanted to say is, im not trying to start anything but , why is that poor yellow love bird in such a awful nasty cage?.. How can anyone let there cage get that nasty...Or is that the way it looked befour crazeemama got the love bird?? I am really curious to this as i dont see the parakeets cage that way.. That poor love birds cage should be tossed out and be put in a new one with fresh clean toys and such.. That really breaks my heart and i couldnt stop thinking about that all night... Thats they way Maxx and Ceaser cage looked when i picked um up, awful!!! But remember im not trying to start anything here just voicing my concerns...:(

'too crazy - There are 17 now.
Barracuda - you are so right! That was one nasty cage. the Lovies had eggs in the oatmeal container. So i let them be until they gave up on the eggs. As luck would have it, that was the next day! I hate a dirty cage, but if i remove the eggs before they give up, she goes into egg laying overtime. So i wait her out. I am trying to be very careful not to give them anything that they might use to lay eggs in. Don't know where my head was when i decided to give them theoatmeal box!
I scrub 2 cages a day, so everyone gets a very clean cage once every 5 days. the paper is changed every day and the worst of the stuff taken care of dailyAs well as the toys etc. If you notice, none of the other cages were dirty.

Oh Crazeemama she is beautiful! 17 birds and this will make 18. It must sound like a jungle at your house. There is no sleeping here past 7 am due to the G2's early rising. What time do they all get started at your house?

Whew - 17 soon to be 18. I'm glad to hear you have the cage scrubbing down to 2 per day. I recall when you were trying to do them all everyday. The new greenwing is absolutely beautiful. Can I ask why the owner is re homing her?

Well Ty gets everyone going about 630. I am sure come summer it will be earlier. My son thinks it is incredibly noisy here, I think it is a symphony! I really didn't realize how noisy until i have been sick for a week. They will keep it up until i come out of the bedroom. LOL too funny.
Ty now has a new swing, that ss one from foster and smith with the three bells on it. A friend of yvonne's ordered it and couldn't stand the noise, so i got it for 20 bucks. He just loves it. the plus side is it is all stainless except the foot rest part. SO he can't dismantle it. I have had to go to all ss quick links on his things as he fiddles with them until he can get them off. i put an oversized one on the swing as ty was climbing up the chain, getting the quick link opened and throwing down the swing!

Di-
The two cages a day has been working very well. At least that way they get disinfected every 5 days and things stay pretty presentable. I do change the paper everyday and get the 'down the side' stuff with a paper towel and squirt bottle. The smaller cages just go to the tub and with the hand held shower thing it goes pretty fast. the bigger ones are more labor intensive. I do a big and small one a day so that it is not overwhelming. I have been going to therapy twicea week for my shoulder and arm and it is helping with the pain and i have more movement, it doesn't help with the strength however. I am hoping it will in the long run.
Btw, i found something that works wonders on the cages. I use vinegar and water with about 1/4 sc oop of that oxyclean. It fizzes up and just takes stuff off like nothing! Do not try to put it in a squirt bottle as it fizzes out! LOL on those brass looking cages it even takes that dark gunk off of the textured metal base. it is awesome. I do rinse it but it saves so much work that even with rinsing it you are ahead! it also is great for kjitchen floors and other cleaning!
I was saving for a steam cleaner when Savannah came to my attention! I want to get one that is big enough for other cleaning too and not just the cages. I'll give you the link if ya want it.
Savannah's human just feels that she is too busy with family obligations to give her the timeshe needs. She loves her and wants her to have more attention and stuff. i have talked to carol on the phone and she sounds wonderful. she is a few years older and has raised her 6 children. she now has 2 adopted boys 5 & 10 and also fosters a couple of children. SHe is also looking at adopting a 3 mo baby that has been seriously injured (battered) so she doesn't have much time anymore.

I agree, the squawking sounds like music to my ears to. It's so cute because in the morning when Barney starts making his king of the jungle noises, the dog goes right over by him and starts howling. That just gets Barney going even more and the two of them just have a great time. I'm hoping the neighbors think it's cool to come summer.;)

I was looking at that swing and I thought it looked pretty neat. Barney never goes on his swing is why I didn't buy it but I still might now that I know someone has it and likes it!

WOW Crazeemama! You sure do have some awesome and gorgeous birds!

I had a similar problem with my lovebird in that she built a huge nest and laid 11 eggs!! She never gives up on them, laying 5 the first time, 4 the second cycle and ended up laying 2 more. It was an improvement over her 5 every time!! I finally cleaned it all out but either way, I felt guilty. She's so happy on those eggs but the nest got so cruddy. There's a picture of her nest here that I'll bring up again.
