Hi everyone! My mom has a 9 week old male Shih-poo named Oliver. He's the cutest little thing, weighing about 3 pounds. He seems to have an obsession with sniffing around the baseboards and trying to dig up the carpet. Does anyone know WHY the dog is doing this, and what can be done to stop this behavior? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe previous pets have pottied there and he can smell it? Maybe he can smell the glue or adhesive used to keep the baseboards in place? It is an odd behavior, indeed. : )

Awww 3 pounds, how cute!
Congrats on your new pup. Pups do all sorts of strange things when their exploring. With behaviors that you don't want, such as digging the carpet, chewing, etc. the best thing to do is to tell him "no" in a firm voice and remove him from the situation. Then give him one of his toys that is acceptable to play with and chew. It may seem that you are having to do this constantly, but with repetition your pup will eventually catch on. Patience is the key.
Good luck and enjoy your new pup!
