hi everyone,

sorry it took me so long to get here but i went to phoenix last nite so i could run the 5k Trot for tots with my girlfriend from highschool! yes, that is me in the photos, the first photo is of Brodie, his owner died of cancer and he never heard the word "NO" from her or her husband, he is such a mellow one coool dude. the second 2 are of a hybrid macaw named Ziggy, he doesn't have any feet and he loves redheads so you know who is his favorite here (: the lil b.h. pionus is Chicklet and i don't know her story. Ruby is the green winged macaw and he was brought here by a 19 year old kid when Ruby was only 9 months old, the young man couldn't care for him and he rode a bus and his bicycle to make it here to give Ruby to us! The other green winged is Mylo, he is so huge and has the biggest beak here at the Oasis, his buddy is Rahrah the military macaw who was wild caught and conviscated when he was being smuggled across the border. J.J. is the moluccan cockatoo who has put many many stitches in several people, i sing to him in the morning as i am unlocking the cages and he seems to be cheering up. and you can't really see it but that is a Javelina, one of the wild pigs that run in packs around here. Can you believe that they have hunting season around here and it makes us all very sick as we love these Javelinas and don't want to see them hurt.

thanks all for all yer compliments.

How did Ziggy come to be at Oasis?. Did the owner turn him in?. Thats amazing about the 19 yr old kid with Ruby. Do you have any Scarlet Macaws there?. I bet you guys have alot of stories behind these birds... they sure look happy and healthy. I keep looking at the pics to see how many I can see in the background ... and all the cages!... I want my house to look like that LOL. Hubby loves the outside aviary and its so kewl to see all the toys. Wonderful work you're all doing. Hopefully, I can get that way someday and stop by for a visit!. Thanks for sharing, its great to see you Teri and we'd love to see more!!! :D

You look great Teri! Again, not at all how I had imagined in my head...I've been suprised every time I've seen pictures of members here! Anyway...you're so lucky to get to spend time with all those wonderful birds and it's great hearing the stories behind them. I'm so impressed with how clean everything looks. I bet there's people cleaning cages and stands non stop there! What are the most unusual kinds of birds you've got? Any un-Capes, Vasa's, Golden conures....?

Teri,
Great pics. Wow, just rows and rows of cages - glad it's you and not me keeping all those cages clean. It sure does look immaculate there. Good Job!

I tried to send you a PM, but your mailbox was full - have you cleaned it out yet?

teri
02-23-2004, 07:26 PM
i don't know how to clean out my mailbox, can someone help me? i've deleted everything and checked my folders ect. and all empty so i don't know what else to do?
we really don't have any unusual types of parrots here, all just the regulars. we do have mustached parakeets, an alexandrine parrot, we also have some of the cherry heads from the San Francisco flock.

i think it's funny that i'm not what you imagined, Jenny, i think the same thing when i see pics of the others when posted and i love seeing them because now you can put the face with the name and personality that I've gotten to know.

Cookie Monster's gorgeous! I'm glad we finally get to see him. You've got Cherry Heads from the San Francisco flock, eh? I just read part of the book on them a few days ago. How come they've come to live at the Oasis? That's neat that there's an Alexandrine, what's he/she like? I agree with you Teri, it sure makes this board so much more fun when you can picture the person in your head when you read their posts. Now I just need a picture of me on here....no wait, I should let you all draw pics of me first, then we'll see how close you are...hehe :p

the san fran. cherry heads came because they were crippled or something was wrong with them and they were saved by us.

the alexandrine is named Baby Doll and really loves men, she is so cute when men come in she wolf whistles at them and says pretty baby. she smells like an amazon parrot, her beak got bit by a cockatoo in our barn so we had to put her in the hospital till she is beeter then she gets to go back to the barn area, i always go in and say hellp to her and reach in and give her a kiss on her beaky.

cookie monster is a girl, a very jealous girl!! my ex b.f. called her my jealous alcoholic husband (::: that's how bad she is, she is a one person bird and tries to kill anyone who comes near me, or if i have visitors, she screams!!! she is too spoiled and i'm doing a bad job behavior wise with her. but i love her so much, and whoever comes along is just going to have to accept her bad behavior (:

i forgot to tell you that we have lories, and the coolest are the scarlet lories, their smell is so sweet, i just love it, they have a more potent smell than the other lories.

Cookie monster is gorgeous Teri... aren't B&G's so fun!. Our Cherokee is also a female but doesn't show the jealous behavior. Guess she's used to all of us handling her. Sam (U2) only lets her on his cage... she has a wonderful, loving personality that everyone loves :D. Thats funny about the smells, Cherokee smells like a chicken.. no kidding... I dont really notice a smell with the other ones. Thats so interesting.

smells......

i bet i could walk in to a room full of different species of parrots blindfolded, and tell you what kind they are just by their smell! the pionus have a very musky foresty smell, the amazon have a sweet musky honey smell, i don't know how to describe the macaws but they do have their own destinct smell, and i love it.

i sure wish cookie monster would warm up to other people, but that is very common with them to be a one person bird...........especially because i'm single. Bonnie Kenk from the PEAC in san diego said that unless my ex-b.f. lived with me, i was not to expect cookie to accept him. he to her is considered a stranger in my house and she is to protect it. behavior is such an interesting thing.

Hi Teri....
I seem to have trouble with your mailbox too so I will just ask you here. On your Moustached Parakeets.....do they have a certain call they make???? Buddy does this AH-Oh AH-OH really fast and loud and I was wondering if this is something he made up or is it his species way of talking??? He also is a jealous bird. I have to be very very carefull:(
I am so glad to see you having a job you like and happy. I root for you everyday! I agree with you on the smells. My Quaker...Oliver...smells like a wet dog after his bath!!!! I know...yuuuuuuuuuuucky...lol
I am going to try to add a picture of Dexter in here. We will see how it goes....

Your to funny Krazy!:D I've been meaning to ask, how's things coming with Oliver? Aren't quakers great? Mine never shut's up but I love it. Yesterday I yelled at Molly (lab mix) because I found her standing on the kitchen table. After I got her down and got done scolding her, I heard Bailey say quietly under his breath, 'bad girl'. I never heard him say that before and of course his timimg was perfect.

Sis~don't use sinus medicine as an excuse for seing 2 birds. Just admit you lost your mind!

Oliver is doing great! I fall more in love with him everyday! Yes....he talks alot too...most of it I don't understand but what I can is funny...lol....I don't know how I ever went this long without a Quaker...they are wonderfull....alot of personality packed into such a little parrot!
Hey Jan...Glad someone saw the humour...lol...I get so frustrated...oh well gives me something to gripe about anyway:)
