I know what you guys mean...I wish my house had an oversized loft, playhouse, hanging toys, etc. I like the idea of baby food...in fact my rat book suggests it, don't know how I missed it. Val and Lil will love that. Oh, I also forgot to figure in the free house cleaning service they have! I guess it's a rat's life.

I know people who say "Having pets is so cruel...you're taking them out of their natural environment for your amusement." Certain animals, I can see that point of view -- but where do most animals have it so bad?
They get free food, no hunting/gathering required.
Their environment is temperature controlled -- no hibernation necessary!
Someone creates a home FOR them.
Someone provides them with mates and friends.
They get loads of attention.
They can keep clean with minimal effort.
They can PLAY all day.
I wish someone gave me a life like that. ;-) Just the cleaning part takes a while...LOL!

You forgot free medical care. In their natural environment the weak and infirm don't fare well at all. They usually end up getting eaten. If we could ask the animals, I'm sure they would say they'd rather share our homes with us.

I agree!. Animals normally do not live long, healthy lives in the wild... I know its what God intended... but then God also made it to where we can all live in harmony together ;).

People tell me that about my exotics all the time. " You shouldn't have a hedgehog! It's not natural! " But, I can tell my little Hedgie is much happier getting to root around in her cage all day with food ready at all times, than having to hide from predators in the wild.

I have to agree. Today I have to clean, drive the kids around, get the car serviced, make meals, etc. The rats have to decide whether to eat their snacks upstairs or downstairs in the rat condo, if they want to nap or play, and how many times they want to wash up. Tough life! But they're so darn cute...piouus...I love hedgehogs. And it sure is easier to relax in her cage than spend half her life rolled up in a defensive ball.
