This is Trouble, one of my kitties. He is the product of a cat that my former neighbors left behind. When I first saw him, I knew he was going to be trouble for me. He was 4 weeks old and had a hole behind his left ear. When I took him to the vet, he needed a name and Trouble it was. The hole turned out to be a warble worm (wobble to us hicks).

A warble worm is a worm that buries itself into animals, under the skin. A lot of the wildlife around here get them, i.e. squirrels, groundhogs, deer, etc. It looks like a large lump on the animal. It eventually festers and the worm comes out and leaves a nasty looking sore. It usually happens in the spring. Hunters won't eat the squirrels when they have them. On Trouble, the worm was still in there and every time he would squall, the worm would move around. It was a gaping, oozing hole. The vet pulled the worm out and cleaned the wound. She said it could have killed an animal that small.
