How important is it to get my male cat neutered?

VERY. he will inevitable escape if you do not, and go outside where he will get fleas, add to the already out of control stray population, get into fights, and runs a great risk of injury or poisoning by humans (intentional or not - fertilizers, etc) or get hit by a car. that's just off the top of my head. listen to bob barker. get your pets spayed and neutered. plus he'll piss all over your home otherwise.

In addition, he'll be more prone to territorial behaviors like spraying!

YES! Please neuter your male cat. All cats should be neutered and spayed. They are healthier happier animals, and it is the responsible thing to do, to help keep the unwanted anmal population down.

In some countries neutering and spaying your cats and dogs is mandatory. I wish it was here.

Besides, how can you stand the smell?

Millions of un-neutered male cats are put to death every year because they started spraying inside their owners' house...something that might have been prevented if the cat had been neutered as a kitten.

It's a terrible reason to kill a cat--owner negligence.

Tens of thousands are put to death every year because they weren't neutered and contracted reproductive cancers.

Tens of thousands of un-neutered male cats are killed because their mating instinct drove them to roam...leading to car accidents, fights with other male cats, and human cruelty.

A neighbor of mine used to leave poison out for cats because un-neutered males came to his house and sprayed all over his yard, making it stink. (I turned him in to the police, but by then, the damage had been done.)

My cat, neutered responsibly, started spraying inside my house because an irresponsible neighbor let his un-neutered cat run free--and he started spraying on my door, which made my male cat go territorial and start spraying when he never had before.

PLEASE neuter your cat. It'll be one of the kindest things you can do for him.
