~** The Invention of Babba**~

Okay, I wanted to take pictures and record how I paint a painting for anyone who was interested and to kill some time...okay, a LOT of time,Lol....So, Sit back, get some refreshments and take a journey into the eye's of an artisan.....

I paint the canvas black first then I sketch out what I want to paint on the canvas. I use blue color pencil so that the sketch lines don't sho up as much or at all. This is the first sketch of Babba on the Canvas. I paint the background first so that it's easier to paint the main subject matter.
For Babba I wanted to do a bright, abstractish back ground just be playful ;O) This process can take anywhere bettween 30 min to and hour or more depending on size,detail etc... Babba took about 45 minutes.

Now I do some small features that have other parts over lapping them in this case I wanted to apply a shiney gloss to just his eyes so they appear to have a realistic glare so I'm doing the eyes first so I only get gloss on them and not the rest of the painting. Here are the different stages of the eyes so you can see how long it takes and the process I use.

I start with a dark base coat, I apply two coats of it and allow at least 15 min of dry time between each coat.

Then I paint a lighter color over it. 10 min for drying.

When I add highlights and outlining the eye's start to take shape.15minuets

I finish off the eyes with a little bit of shading and the gloss. 5 min

Wow, that's so interesting! Thanks for sharing that with us Kendra. I'm not very creative (can only draw little "stick people" he he :eek: ) so it was really interesting to see the steps you take when you do a painting.

I can do flowers and humans I stay away from unless I am in the mood...This Frieda is the first human I have painted in a really long time......

But I don't get into humans too much now a days, I like animals and things that just catch my eye to paint.
