I adopted a female rabbit and I think she may be pregnant, is there a way to tell for sure? it's been about 28 days and she is acting really strange. If she is what do I do to help her make her cage birthing friendly???

Hi ccred and welcome :)

I haven't had a bunny since I was very young, and never had babies... so I'm sorry I cant help. You might want to search rabbit internet sites for info and good luck to you :)

Most of the time when a bunny is pregnant, she will build a nest. If you don't already have one in the cage, you need to put a covered box in there. It shouldn't have a floor, but it should be sturdy because the rabbit will get on top as well as in it. The mother will pull out some of her own fur to make the nest. This usually comes from under the front of her neck. If it's reallly close time for her to give birth, she will lay around more the last couple of days. Also, you can look at her teats and see if they are starting to look swollen around them. Her mood may change and she may seem a little ill-tempered. Also, if she liked being picked up before, she may not like it any more. Keep her cage cleaned out more often (except for the nest) so she will have a clean house when she gives birth because she probably won't want her space cleaned for a while after the babies get here.

Well, she had the babies, 6 of them and they are so cute. She is doing well and being a good Mom.

I'll keep the site informed of the babies progress. Thanks to everyone who responded, your advice used put to use.

Thanks, ccred
