We have our hand reared female cockatiel in the outside aviary now as she was exhibiting signs that she was interested in mating. She has been inside our house and has had two of the other birds from the aviary inside her cage with her previously. One was a baby bird we brought inside to rear and another we bought as a mate for her. We left he mature male bird inside for a while in the hope they would bond. She shows no signs of being interested in the male and tries to bite any bird that goes near her. We put out a nesting box for her and she has laid an egg inside and enthusiastically looks after it. We are sure she has not mated so it will be infertile. How can we choose a mate for her when she doesn't like any of the other birds. Should we buy one the same colour she is and then she might relate to him?
