I want a Green-cheeked conure, but I don't know if I sould get a boy or a girl... Does it really matter? Also, what age would be good?

Most birds, if you want them to be really tame, should be a boy, but some girls are very friendly too. The best talkers are boys. So it just depends on what you are looking for in a bird. Good luck!:)

I have 2 female amazons, 3 female lovebirds, a female quaker, a female lorikeet, 2 female parrotlets. a female green cheek conure and a female budgie. The rest of my birds are either male or of unknown gender. The females are all very friendly and social, as are all of my birds. I have never noticed a difference in being tame associated with gender. In some species, but not all, the males do make better talkers, but my amazons, lorikeet, quaker and green cheek conure all talk well.

Okay, so how much do they talk? I wouldn't care if it ever talked, I mean sure it would be cool, but I would be fine if it didn't. My brother has an African Gray, but he is a baby.. I want to hear what he sounds like!

My rainbow lorikeet has the largest and most clear vocabulary of my birds. She calls the kitty, tells the dogs,"get outta here" when they come into the room. Skittles says, "lay down, uh oh, thank you, come here, leave it, I love you," etc. My green cheek says about 5 or 6 phrases, but in a very quiet, raspy voice. The amazons say the basic things they hear the most i.e. "Step up, good bird, hello." My quaker's favorite phrase is "I'm going to get you" because of a game I play with her. Her voice isn't as clear as my lorikeet's but is clearer than my green cheek's. Years ago, I had an African gray (Timneh) that never said a word, just mimmicked different sounds.
