So, this is a pretty funny story. Well, not for the poor Beagle, but...it just goes to show you that some people should not own animals.
This man comes in with his Beagle, who's ten years old. Good looking dog, but you could definately smell the thing from a mile away. Didn't necessarily smell dead, but geez. You know that "dog" smell, well...let's intensify that times 1,000.
Anyway, he comes in, he looks pretty common. But, his complaint was that the dog smelled AWFUL! He wanted to know if it was that made his dog smell so bad.
So, upon exam...the dog is perfectly fine, aside from being very, very, very dirty. The doctor's are stumped. Kidneys, liver, heart, etc., everything looks really, really good.
We had decided to keep the dog all day long for random testing, and then no one could stand the smell any longer, so we let one of the kennel kids bathe and dry the dog up. Free for the owner of course. It was our decision to bathe.
With no answers, the doctor calls the owner and said she's stumped, but that the dog got a bathe on the house. The owner becomse IRATE and tells us exactly what is wrong with the dog.
Apparently, he had read in a book AND confirmed with his breeder (10 years ago) that you should NEVER EVER EVER bathe Beagles. He was so mad, it's was crazy! I've never seen someone so mad all beacause we bathed the Beagle and you're not supposed to bathe Beagles, it'll kill them, you know.
Anyway, after a long, long talk with the man. He finally arrived to pick up his dog and left with a bottle of shampoo, and that was that. He said not a single word to anyone about anything when he came in. He just paid his bill for hundreds of dollars of testing, because of his ignorance, and took his Beagle and shampoo and went home. : )
Can you imagine how much better you'd feel if you hadn't bathed in 10 years, and you finally get out of the tub!? : )
