Hello-
I have a two year old Vizsla named Ivy. While she is generally an emotional dog and actually quite neurotic (I've talked to other Vizsla owners and heard many are this way) her behavior has taken a turn for the worse in the last couple of days. All of sudden, when I try to tug back and forth on her rope or blanket toys, she stops almost immediately, puts her head down, her tail in between her legs and refuses to play. Usually when my wife and I slowly creep up towards her and pretend we're going to get her, she gets very excited and races around looking for a toy. Now, she sulks and goes and curls up on the couch. The other day, her teeth got me by accident and I stopped and told her to be careful, but did not raise my voice. I'm wondering if this is causing her to get upset? I really don't think so, however, because that has happened in the past and it never caused this behavior. She rarely ever gets too aggressive. In fact, you couldn't ask for a more gentle, careful dog. I also am thinking she may have injured her mouth somehow and doesn't want to pull on toys, but I've checked several times and there is no evidence of that. Plus, she's eating her hard food just fine and devoured a bone yesterday without any discomfort. Please help, we miss our normal Ivy. What could be causing this?

Thanks

It could be tons of things, actually. Is she eating any of the recalled foods? Does she eat out of the trash? Does she totally consume her toys? Yes, most Viszlas are obnoxious, and what you have is very strange. You definately need to get her to the vet. Don't hesitate. She might have an obstruction or some sort of infection. Get them to run some bloodwork to check her over. It may be something simple, then again...it may be something serious.

I agree, a trip to the vet is in order. Sudden changes in behavior are always a red flag.

Is she intact. When they go into heat they can have behavior changes

Also if their is an illness or injury

I'd watch her to se if anything else changes and give her some rest.
Call the vet and see if they think it warrants you coming in. I'm guessing they will tell you to hold off a day and keep a close eye on her since she is eating and drinking fine
