My vet (knowing that I had recently lost my delicate little girl, my sweet baby, my Sha-Dar) asked me to adopt a cat that had been abandoned to his care.
My little girl had been with me for 13 years and it hurt (oh my God, it hurt) to say goodbye.
But, I had grieved for my delicate tiny baby girl. I was ready for a new kitty girl to come in to my life.
I agreed to take the kitty girl my vet asked me to adopt.
After all, the vet told me, that if I didn't take her, he would have no choice but to do what he (and I) consider unthinkable. He said if he could not find a home for her, he would have to put her down.
Of course, I took her in.
But my vet, he lied to me.
This is not a cat...............She's A COW!!!!!
She eats three times as much as my sweet little Sha-Dar.
We are trying to give this new cat a name but my husband insists that she must be called Cow.
My new cow........uh I mean, uhh.............cat?!?!?!? does fill a place in my heart that my baby girl left behind, but honestly I never thought that place would be filled by a cow, uhhhhhhh I mean cat?!?!?!?.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad my new cow (uhhhhh, that is to say) cat eats so well.
But, Light help me, I never thought I'd be feeding a cow.

We have a 14 almost 15 year old cat and she eats little meals all throughout the day and is thin - not quite the weight she was when younger. I think your new cat may seem to be eating a lot because you were used to having an older cat around who probably didn't eat as much due to not being as active. So just keep in mind that she is probably going thru a growing spurt and please give her a name other then "Cow" as in years to come it will not be appropriate. Glad you have a new furkid to love.

I agree, kittens are eating machines.

I took in a stray that was about 9 months old, and he eats & eats & eats. My 19 year old who passed picked and nibbled. I am waiting for him to quit growing so I don't have to buy a 15 pound bag of Katz-n-Flocken........

Perhaps you could name her "Bessie" and you & your husband would get the inside joke.

My new cat Maggie eats 3x as much as my fat cat Earl. She was only about 3 1/2 lbs when we brought her home from the shelter. Emaciated isn't even a strong enough word for how skinny she was.

Now she is 7 1/2 lbs (2 months later) and each day she eats 1/2 a can of wet food, a whole bowl of dry food, then she snacks on Earl's dry food, raids the trash can and will eat ANYTHING you leave on the counter (see my post 'cats ate raw chicken' in the cats health section, lol) AND will even nibble at the dog's food! She like a vaccuum, I should have named her Hoover.

Instead of cow, you could name her after a famous cow, like Elsie or Bessie.

Thank all of you for your kind words. I thought I should reasure you about what I've decided to name my new cow......errrr I mean cat LOL
I have a little superstition. I feel that any new baby must have a name starting with an s or I will lose that baby much to soon. So I have decided to name my new kitty girl Shaman. That may sound like a male's name but to me she seems like a wise cat. And besides, her former name was (of all things) Coyote.
I don't doubt that she has a bit of the trickster in her but she really does seem like a cat wise beyond her years. So, Shaman she will be.
Thank you all so much for helping me laugh again. I've had little but tears since my last baby girl passed. Every laugh is a triumph.
I don't know what the rest of you believe but I believe my Sha-Dar Shadarim is waiting for me and will be with me in heaven.
After all, how can heaven truly be heaven, without my baby girl.
Or my Chi-Chi, or my sweet Runt, or all of the other babies I've loved. Heaven can't be Heaven without my babies. How can it be paradise if my babies aren't there?
Without them, heaven might as well be hell.
As for what Shaman eats..........well lets just say i bought a 25 lb bag of kitty litter and an 18 lb bag of cat food. I think the litter will run out first:eek: . LOL

I am so glad to hear you were able to laugh a little. What a nice name you have selected for your new kitty. Sounds like you have a healthy little one there (who won't be little for much longer) who will entertain you when you feel down. Wishing you much luck and happiness with her.

Nice to read that your little cow has put a few laughs back in your life.

I have a friend who, when his new kitten gave him a nip, exclaimed “you little B . . . .” The name stuck, yes he did give the cat a ‘proper’ name but rarely used it. Whenever the B word was used the cat looked up thinking he was being referred to.

The only snag was when my friend called the cat in from out the back, some of his neighbors started to object! ;)

You could call her "Elsie"...or "Clarabelle". It sounds better and maybe that would satisfy your hubby (if he remembers those two famous cows!)

lol

My boyfriend called to my Pee Wee one day (Pee Wee is NOT a little cat, he is very large). He called him Fat B.....d. And Pee Wee responded by going to him. We all had a big laugh over that. Every once in a while we call him that when we have to go buy yet ANOTHER bag of cat food. lol

My cat seems to eat a lot but I never see him eat. We will fill his bowl in the morning and it seems like it's empty not even an hour later. He's still really skinny so I'm not too worried about him over eating but sometimes I wonder where it all does besides the litter box.
