Me and my fiance recently picked up a puppy corgi chihuahua mix from off the street. We also own a puppy dachsund Jack Russel Terrier mix.

After a few hours of having our newly found dog we noticed that he started to cough. He would cough from about a minute or two and then stop. We also noticed that there was a strange green mucus that would form on his genitals after urinating. After a few days we noticed our other dog forming the same type of mucus. its been over a week now and the coughing hasnt made much change aside from occasional hacking.

Unfortunately we do not have the money for a vet to take a look at it at this time. So basically i would like to know if this is a big problem or maybe just some sort of cold.

Boy I think you really should have them both checked by a vet. It sounds as if it could be something infectious since the new one passed it on to your other dog.

I agree with carlar. I would make an appt with the vet and try to get him in asap. Hopefully it's something minor, but better safe than sorry.
Good luck.

contact your local SPCA, explain your situation and ask if they can check out the dogs for free, or if they will accept a payment plan for the visit. the fact you picked up a stray, they probably will let you take it in for a free check up. if this fails, take one of them to the vet to find out what it is. better a smaller bill now than a bigger one later if there is a problem.

The coughing sounds almost like it could be kennel cough, but by now your other dog would likely be coughing too, unless he's vaccinated against it. However coughing can mean a lot of things, heart problems and even other things. The mucus I really don't know, I don't know of anything that should cause that, however sometimes male dogs have stuff around there, but I wouldn't be able to tell you if it was normal or not unless I saw it, it shouldn't be something that he could have passed on though, are you sure you just never noticed it on your dog before. Sometimes they just produce a mucus though I can't say it being very green would be a good thing. I actually would be more worried about the cough. Hope you can get them into some vet soon. Since you can't afford the vet right now maybe it would be better to give up this stray to the shelter? They could possibly help him out. Sorry I don't have much advice here.
