Hi there,

I'm hoping you can help me with this. I have a couple of trips planned for the summer and I feel really bad about being away from my little feathered baby boy Mwana (budgie). How do birds travel? Would it be fine to take him on a 4 hour road trip and for him to be away from his home for a week?

Is it less stressful to him for me to be away than for me to travel with him? Any insights or experiences will be helpful.

Bopeep, don't worry, pack your little birds suitcase, cage, toys, seatbelt, and bring him along. Birds are quite happy to go with you.
I know. I have moved four times, and all in the company of a bird and or birds, pet ones at that.

one move was seven hours. one move was 4 hours. the other 1, and one just across the street so to speak.

We also took our conures on vacation to a family reunion, and they did fabulous.

Just make sure he's warm, comfortable, take his night night blanket so you can cover his cage when it gets dark.

Always keep him buckled up in his traveling cage.

my birds enjoyed being able to see the world go by as we drove.

I'm sure you'll get more input. but this so far has been my experience.

Furthermore, the experience built trust between us, knowing they are not being abandoned.

Good luck.

Birds are really resilient and I'm sure he'll love the trip.
