As you all know my Goffin, Angel has been having trouble with feather plucking. However, she seems to be improving. I have been giving a little extra attention, giving her more stimulating toys and concentrating on making sure she gets a bath or is misted daily.
Last Friday, I realized that I had missed a day or so and decided that it was bath time. I decided to do this in the sink - downstairs in our half a bath. Well as usual - Angel was resistant and in her determination not to get wet jumped out of the sink and fluttered to floor - hitting her wing on something on the way down. You guessed it, A BROKEN BLOOD FEATHER. At first I thought it was me that was bleeding as Angel had been trying to get away from me by grabbing a beak full of skin at my wrist and pulling herself up. Upon examination, it was turned out to be her left wing.
Well, I had errands to run and chores to do - but was afraid to leave her. So, upon calling the pet store where she was purchased, it was thought best if I brought her in. I learned the difference between a big Blood feather and a small one which did not need to be worried about. Of course, Angel's was a large blood feather which had to be pulled. Well, Angel fights more over a bath then having her wing feather pulled. I couldn't believe she took that so well. This after fighting me about being put in her carrier to go out and then regurgitating her breakfast along the way as she was so stressed.
Thank goodness that the owner of the store was there to assist me that day. She took the time to take care of Angel and calm both of us down.
