Very few people I know have even heard of them (except the people on the shiba inu message board I go to of course haha)!
SHGrrl
02-13-2004, 06:54 PM
Right, Shiba Inu.
Sadly, the book seems to have neglected this dog! But I know this breed, I've seen it in other books before. Quite a sweet thing, huh? (Well all animals are sweet anyway).
Do you have a Shiba Inu then?
Yea I have a Shiba Inu named Bear. I introduced him on your "Balto's Profile" thread :) He's 9 years old and is a black & tan. Shibas are probably more popular over there because it's a dog native to Japan. I don't know :P Lotta books neglect the breed. Here's a new pic of Bear.

Thank you for looking these up for us. No many people I know have an Alaskan Malamute. They are very loving and smart. Definetley not a watch dog. They will be as nice to a stranger as they are to you. They demand alot of attention but make a wonderful companion. I see you live in Singapore, were you born there? What is life like there? I've never lived out side the US so I am curious.

Singapore rocks!!!!!!!!! Have been a Singaporean all my life. Some facts:
We've got the world's best airport and seaport I think.
Singapore is super small, and I mean super super small. A mere dot on the globe.
Our gov is the best
Only night safari in the world
Very very hot and humid weather! (Believe it or not, Balto likes to sunbathe! One day, I came back home, and I was sweating and just wishing for a ice drink, when I saw him sunbathing!!!!! Wonder how he does it)
The gov makes sure every child in Singapore goes for education
Have performed many operations on siamese twins, in fact, quite famous for it
No natural resources, only resource is humans!
Known as the clean and green country.
No mountains, no large forests, no lakes, nothing! But I LUV s'pore!!!!! Yeah!!!
There is a malamute quite near my house. HE'S SO BIG AND FURRY AND CUTE!!!!!!!!! I have realised the diff between sibes and Mals.
Husky: Slimmer, race dog
Malumate: More hefty, for carrying heavy loads.
Agree?

04-08-2004, 08:57 AM
Hi, I thought a malamute living in AZ was strange but living in a hot humid climit is even stranger. You are exactly correct about the difference between sibs and MA's. The sib was breed for speed and the MA was breed for endurance. You would not see the MA in the Itiderode race(don't think I spelled that right) I think they both have the same nature because they are both working dogs who live with a pack. Beau is very social and he needs to be with us most of the time. Beau was a rescue and we just got another friend for him who we named Rudy. Rudy was 8 months old in Nov. when we got him from the rescue that was showing them at Pets Mart (do you have Pets Mart in Singapore) he is a mixed breed and is a medium size dog. Beau and Rudy get along very well except when Rudy trys to steal Beau's treats than his head winds in Beau's mouth. This is just a warning because Beau never leaves a mark on him but it sure scares him. He is a very sweet pup and learns very fast. He is very frightened of tall men and large trucks. We think something must have happened to scare him so bad.
What grade are you in? You seem very bright and mature. Have you ever been to the US? Phoenix and it's surrounding towns are very beautiful and clean. Because of irrigation and sprinkler systems it is very green with many kinds of flowers, many can bloom all year. Right now the catus are blooming and catus flowers are the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen. The pinks and yellows are like no other flower on earth. The colors are like they are electric. I am originally from New Jersey which is also a very pretty State in the summer. It is know as the "Garden State" because it is so very green and lush in the spring and summer months. The jersey tomatoe is the best you ever tasted and the jersey corn is pretty great as well. I hated the winters so I moved to Phoenix 26 years ago. We have wonderful weather in the winter but in the summer the tempeture can rise to 120 degrees. Many people live here in the winter and go back to there cooler homes in the summer. We call them Snow Birds. I now live in Surprise, AZ which is a suburb of Phoenix. As with most cities when the grow to big the residents move out to the suburbs and that is what has happened here. Maybe I can get my husband to scan some pictures so you can see Beau and Rudy. By the way I have two cats as well, Chelsea and Tuxedo. Tuxedo has not come out from under the bed since Rudy got here. I have to put food and water under the bed for her. Chelsea, however, could care less, thats because Beau raised her and she is not frightened by dogs.
Write soon.

We have a mini-Schnauzer. I don't know what famous people have owned one, but one thing I have noticed --- if you read any histories about the Nazi era, you'll see photos of Schnauzers along with the Nazi families. From movies I assumed the German Shepard was the favorite Nazi dog (which it was for guard dog duties) but apparently mini-schnauzies were popular family dogs. Just an interesting historical tidbit.
Speaking of history, I wonder how Corgies became the "official" dog of British royalty? I also noticed that the famous children's illustrator Tasha Tudor was very enamored of corgies, and would often place them in her illustrations whenever a dog would fit in the picture.
