Hi all,
I have a little tip for everyone who gives supplements. Many times we have a hard time getting our pets to take their supplements, so we hide them in the food dish and they eat them with their breakfast/dinner. Although this is a good way to get them to take them, with many supplements our pets won't be getting the full effect of that particular supplement.
Although it can sometimes be a pain in the butt, if possible, try to wait an hour or two before or after a meal when giving supplements. Of course, always check on the label of the supplement you are giving and make sure it's not something that should be taken with food.
I learned this tip from Dr. Bicks. I give my dogs a supplement with additional zinc, as the norhern breeds require more zinc in their diets. Put simply, by giving it a few hours after they eat their meal, which also has zinc in it, they get better absorbtion into the bloodstream by waiting.

Our Dane girl, trinity got pneumonia about a year ago, we had to give her LOTS of antibiotics.
The best trick was soft cream cheese, they slide right on down!!

Yup, sometimes you have to try little tricks to get them to take things. All my dogs take their skin/coat, daily and agility supplements with no problem.
I act as if they are treats and they all sit and wait for theirs. But when I try to give them the fish oil capsules they spit them out. Now I do the fish oil capsules when they are getting a treat and they don't seem to notice they're there.lol
