Hi all,
I have a little tip for everyone who gives supplements. Many times we have a hard time getting our pets to take their supplements, so we hide them in the food dish and they eat them with their breakfast/dinner. Although this is a good way to get them to take them, with many supplements our pets won't be getting the full effect of that particular supplement.
Although it can sometimes be a pain in the butt, if possible, try to wait an hour or two before or after a meal when giving supplements. Of course, always check on the label of the supplement you are giving and make sure it's not something that should be taken with food.
I learned this tip from Dr. Bicks. I give my dogs a supplement with additional zinc, as the norhern breeds require more zinc in their diets. Put simply, by giving it a few hours after they eat their meal, which also has zinc in it, they get better absorbtion into the bloodstream by waiting.
