I have noticed the last couple of days our Dixie girl is licking the inside of her paw alot. I noticed that the inside is very red and it looks like a blister inside. We put some liquid band-aid on the paw which she squirmed as if it was painful and a sock with tape. I guess she will have to wear a cone overnight so she won't tear off the sock...which I know she will. Does anyone know what the blister could be from? I was thinking maybe from her licking it so much that it was from the moisture. There is no open areas just a whitish blister. Any ideas???? Thanks Joy.

I would suspect a splinter maybe a thornget your vet to look if bathing in warm water doesnt help use a magnifying glass, Sheila...

Check out the link below & see if this is what your dog is doing.

Hi Evey, I checked out the post last night and its not the top of the paw, she licks inside where the pads are. Should I wait a couple of days or should I take her to the vet? I put a cone on her head so she would stop licking, she licks and bites at the pads and the fur surrounding the paw. Thanks Joy.

I forgot to ask if it was food allergies would a dog be licking all their paws or just infactuated with one?

It could be a fungus. I would take her to the vet just to be on the safe side.

I put polysporin on the paw and wrapped a sock around it and will let her rest for a few days. She badly wants to run and play outside. I give it until Tuesday and see how it goes. Oh ya if its a fungal infection could monostat be put on????

My dog is constantly licking the insides of his paws. He's been to the vet, and everything's fine, but if your dog is white, the saliva could be turning the fur red. Its something in the saliva that dyes it, I forgot what exactly.

I have no explanation for the blister, so you should definitely take her to the vet, but like I said, if the red is like a reddish-rust color then its the saliva.

The liquid band-aid could be harmful to your dog. My dog used to do the same thing till I wanted to scream. One day I checked between the toes and she had like a red blister. So, I figured I would take her to the vet's in a few days cause I was ill and couldn't drive in my condition. Well, I checked on it before phoning for an appt the following week and lo and behold it had turned kind of swollen . As I put pressure between the toes something poofed in my face. It was the sore between the toes that had broken...and what did I find upon further checking?...A sliver of wood. So if your dog has no sliver, it could be a very common yeast infection, better to check with your vet on this one.

My dog had/has the same thing!
She usually licked her paw after we gave her a bath,
but at one time i caught her sort of chewing slightly on her paw,
her paw is really fluffy but i checked maybe she had a little tig bothering her,
but instead like you, i found a little ..almost i can say pimple?
and she doesnt feel comfortable when i touch around it,
also it is located in the center between the dark dog pads..
I will check again today, it doesn't seem to really bother her..

Just an update of Dixie's paw. When she is put in her crate for naps and at night we have been putting the cone on her head and she seems to do fine. The paw is still slightly reddened but not as bad. I didn't see any blisters or pimples. During the day when she goes to her "place" I always make sure she has a bone or something to knaw on and if I see her licking it I correct her not too. I'm wondering if this is a boredom thing with her chewing on her paw? I always try to keep her busy and her and our other puppy are always playing together. If it was a boredom situation wouldn't she be licking on all her paws or is she licking the paw because of a medical problem? And is this a puppy problem that will go away as she gets older? She is currently 8 months. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks Joy.

As you probably know, puppies love to chew on things, but i don't know if that is the case, my dog is 6 years and chews on her foot slightly even though she has bones.. Maybe it is a mental thing.. but I hope your dog gets better, keep a close eye on your puppy : )

I'm thinking it could be one of two things, potentially.

One, which was already mentioned is allergies to something.

Another thing, with it being cold outside (I don't know where you live) but the salt from roads, driveways, sidewalks could be irritating the dogs paw. If this is a case for you, wash the dogs paw in warm water every time he/she comes inside to wash away any salt.

That's all I can think of.

Maybe it would be best to talk to a vet too!

Dixie has not been licking her paw but when I checked the paw...its almost like she was drawn to lick so I just told her no. The paw isn't as red as it was 3 days ago. I'm gonna still let her wear the cone a few more nights and see how it goes. I gave her a little teaspoon of yogurt last week, it was cows yogurt as opposed to goat, could this make a difference?? Also I put some IAms sauce on her chicken just to flavour could that have made her lick her paw??? allergy???

Carpet Fresh and Febreeze on the couch or carpets itches and makes them lick paws. If you're using any of these two products stop and get some shea butter or bag balm and apply it on the pad.

Tonight before I put Dixie to bed I didn't put on the cone like I usually do because I wanted to see if she was going to lick her paw. Well she did lick her paw, so I think its a boredom issue. I put the cone on and she falls alseep. Is she going to have to wear this cone forever...I hope not it looks uncomfortable. My poor girl :(

Since you just got her I'm assuming you are probably switching over her diet. Do you know what she was eating before the switch? As alot of people mentioned it could be environmental, boredom or allergies. With food allergies it can sometimes take up to 6-8 weeks for them to clear up.
Hopefully it will all clear up for you soon.

I have noticed that she isn't licking her paw as much. Its also not as red inside. I think its just boredom. Now when I see her licking it for along time, I will correct her and give her a bone to chew on, take away from the nice juicy paw that she wants to knaw on.
