PLEASE!! post pic of your horse(s). this is me and Askim. we were competing in a Judged Pleasure Trail Ride sponsored by Riding for the handicapped. all we do is go on a long trail ride and you come across 10 abstacles. you are judged from 1-10 (and partial points) for how well you do at the obstacles. Usually at the last ride, they have a photo obstacle wher eyou have to pose for the camera (tests patience) and we get to keep our photo at the end. This was taken last October. the last ride in the series of 5 (you have to compete in 4 rides to be eligiable for the series) that day we got a 98.4 the second highest score of all 135+ competitors. we got 4 trophies for the day and a 1st place in my age division for the series. This was our best year.

anyway Askim is a 23 yr old 14.2HH arab/quarter/appy cross. he is my first horse ive had him for 11 years. Unfortunately, when the time comes that i lose him, replacing him will be the hardest thing in the world. and im not talking emotionally although that will be difficult as well. He is one of THE best horses out there. i think i got really lucky!

Wow, it sounds like Askim is a real winner, you sure got lucky with him! Here is a link to some pictures I posted of my horse awhile back: http://forums.petlovers.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=697&highlight=morgan

Before I moved to Arizona from California, I had a 3 year old thoroughbred gelding that I rescued from the race track. :( He was very difficult to work with, definately a challenge! I had to retrain him myself, and I loved every second of it. (Even the broken toes and bitten legs, and the scraped up knees, LOL).. Glad to see another horse lover! :)

Ah yes, broken toes, been there, done that when my mare decided to step on my foot. When I asked through gritted teeth "back" she leaned over as if to say "I beg your pardon? Did you say something?"

Broken ribs when test riding hard headed mare in a beginner snaffle, new owner insisted but I knew she was used to long shank snaffle. She raced off with me which was fine, but suddenly she decided to jump almost 3 feet over a 6 inch bump and I went sailing.

Gotta love 'em!

hmm ive never had any broken toes. ive broken quite a few other things.

my worst? Askim is for some reason terrrified of birds. FANTASTIC FOR A TRAIL HORSE!!!!! a coupleof years ago, i came home from college for christmas break. my VERY FIRST day home from school, i decided to go riding around a small park at the bottom of the hill from the barn. it wasnt freezing but it was really cold. at the bottom, theres a small patch of grass known as the "designated eating area" the horses know this well. Askim stopped and was munching on what little grass was there when all of a sudden two sparrows flew up from the brush right beside us. next thing i know, Askim launched himself 10 feet to one side (aka the arab teleport. he has this down.) i, totally caught off guard, fall off -first time in 4 years--and land HARD on my butt,on the cold, cold, hard road. i couldnt move for about 15 minutes, in the meantime i had flagged down a passing car and asked the person to please go back to the barn and get my friends as this was the only time i ever rode without my cell phone. several passersby stopped and asked if i need help i told them no. a few insisted on calling an ambulance. no thank you i dont want to go to the hospital. finally my friends came and took me and my horse back to the barn. i went home, CRAWLED up my front steps and spend the rest of my vacay on the couch. it wasnt official, but my friend who is a nurse decided that from bruising and inability to move at all for about 2 weeks, i most likely fractured my tailbone. christmas vacay was so fun that year!

i also once had a 1500 pound Thoroughbred mare step and turn on my bare foot (dont ask or judge) resulting in several stitches.

lol my mare was terrified of mailboxes. And rabbits. We had to have a few heart to hearts before she would go by them.
