6 weeks ago our dog had a cruciate ligament operation in his hind leg, out vet tells us all is well and that we have done a good job on in his recovery period. The problem is, as far as I am concerned he seems the same as before the operation, ie. he would go out for and walk and be fine, but on returning home he would shortly start to limp around on three legs. Now that he has had his operation he is still doing the same thing, is this the normal signs of a recovery or is something not right?

Is he limping on the same leg or the other one? Many times the other leg will go as a result of the way the dog compensates for the pain. If you have any doubts get a second opinion from a different vet.

Yes the same leg.

There could be some atrophy from lack of use. Is there any heat in the leg?

Nope, feels normal. His leg is fine until I walk him, then 30 to 60 minutes after his walk he holds his leg up and hops around on 3. After about 6 hours he is back to normal, I just wonder if this is normal recovery behaviour for his operation.

He may still be recovering. A 2nd opinion is probably not a bad idea though.
