Metal dog collar

I've been looking for metal dogcollars. I've looked in stores and online and all I've been able to find are vintage collars for $300. Is there a reason I can't find any newer ones? Are they dangerous? My dog has a big metal punk necklace on right now, with his tags attached to it. It's not actually a functional collar, it's just for decoration and for his tags, so it's pretty loose. It looks so pretty that I wanted to go and buy a thick silver necklace and just use that as a collar but before i go and spend $150 on a necklace, I wanted to check if there are any safety issues. Has anyone heard anything about using metal collars?

Mandy, I haven't heard of the metal collars. They have the collars with the metal studs for decoration but I don't think you will find a metal one. A thick silver necklace probably wouldn't be a good idea to use as a functional collar because if the dog pulled while you were walking it, the necklace would break. I would recommend the decorated collars for safety.

It wouldn't actually be a functional collar, it would just be for decoration. I have a nice nylon collar that I take him on walks with, I only use it when he's on walks or if I let him out anticipating that I'll have to catch him by snagging his collar. You know they hardly sell any decorated collars anymore? I remember when I was younger they used to have all kinds of studded collars or braided leather or colorful patterned collars, they dont seem to have much of anything anymore. They don't even have actual spike collars, they just have collars with blunt nubs, and those are on stiff leather that would probably hurt a dog's neck. I just think regular collars are so boring...:o

Have you looked at Petco? They have a lot of brightly colored collars. When Morgan is full grown I plan on getting her a "pretty" one. Right now I have to get her a new collar every couple of months. I haven't seen the spike collars, they may have quit making them. If i see any, I'll let you know where, maybe you can then order it from them.

LOL Mandy, I want to see the big metal punk necklace! It sounds like your pet doesn't have a problem with it but I really don't know.
